The Head Grower at Starbase is a key role responsible for the strategic direction and operational oversight of all cannabis cultivation activities. This position ensures the consistent production of high-quality cannabis while maximizing yields and adhering to all regulatory requirements. The Head Grower implements and refines cultivation protocols, manages resources effectively, and collaborates with other departments to achieve Starbase's production and quality objectives. This role requires extensive expertise in cannabis cultivation, strong leadership and management skills, analytical capabilities, and a thorough understanding of compliance within the cannabis industry.

This role operates with a high degree of independence, often working alone to manage daily facility operations; however, management remains available to provide guidance, alignment, and support as needed. The Head Grower will work 5 days per week at our Topsham, Maine location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversees the accurate record-keeping of all cultivation activities within designated systems (Flourish, Metrc).
  • Develops and implements strategic cultivation plans to optimize yield, quality, and consistency.
  • Oversees all phases of the cultivation process, ensuring adherence to established SOPs.
  • Maintains compliance with all local, state, and federal cannabis regulations.
  • Manages comprehensive pest and disease control strategies, including the safe, compliant, and precise application of approved pesticides and beneficials.
  • Maintains strict facility cleanliness and sanitation protocols across all cultivation areas to prevent contamination and optimize plant health.
  • Executes facility efficiency improvements, including light construction tasks, facility maintenance, and building crop support infrastructure (e.g., setting up and maintaining trellises).
  • Ensure continuous operation of facility, which includes equipment, facility and anything within the property bounds at the grow. Schedule and facilitate contractors for routine maintenance as needed
  • Collaborates with the lab and processing teams to achieve product quality targets and support new product development.
  • Manages the cultivation budget and ensures cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Continuously evaluates and implements industry best practices and technological advancements.
  • Conducts regular assessments of growing conditions and implements necessary adjustments.
  • Promotes a safe and sustainable work environment within the cultivation department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Significant experience in commercial cannabis cultivation, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of cannabis plant biology, genetics, and advanced cultivation techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale cultivation operations and lead teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant cannabis regulations and compliance protocols

  • Ability to perform continuous physical labor, including lifting equipment, bending, reaching, and assembling crop support structures.
  • Ability to safely handle, mix, and apply agricultural chemicals/pesticides while wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Comfort working independently for extended periods within the facility.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
