You’ll have the chance to forge unique relationships with exclusive wine producers from Europe and Australia, curate our wine importation program, and lead captivating wine masterclasses. Plus, each year, you’ll travel to VinItaly to discover and source unique boutique wines directly from the producers themselves. This is a rare chance to expand your knowledge and make invaluable connections with some of the finest wineries in Italy and France!
At our highly awarded Italian restaurant and wine bar, we specialize in handcrafted, regionally inspired Italian cuisine perfectly paired with boutique Italian and Australian wines. We’re on the lookout for a passionate and enthusiastic Head Sommelier to spearhead our beverage operations, offering an incredible opportunity to be a vital part of our successful and distinctive establishment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with exclusive wine producers, bringing the best of the best to our guests.
- Oversee our wine importation program, including exciting annual travels across Europe and interstate.
- Collaborate with our online retail wine operations to enhance our offerings.
- Organize and conduct engaging wine masterclasses that will delight and educate our guests.
- Foster a strong work-life balance within our talented team, ensuring a positive workplace culture.
- Lead the delivery of exceptional wine and food service that creates memorable experiences.
- Assist with inventory management, stock control, and POS systems to keep our operations running smoothly.
- Mentor and train staff, sharing your expertise and passion for wine.
- Ensure the seamless operation of our venue and oversee our online wine store.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Head Sommelier in a high-end restaurant environment is a significant advantage.
- Relevant qualifications such as WSET Level 3 or equivalent are essential.
- A strong background in fine dining settings with a keen understanding of beverage and cost management.
- Extensive knowledge of Italian and Australian wines is a must!
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and spoken, with an attention to detail.
- A genuine passion for team leadership and development, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- A drive for innovation and a commitment to delivering an outstanding guest experience.
- Experience coordinating and hosting wine events that leave a lasting impression.
