$14.36 – 16.98 for an associate degree and $16.17 – $17.97 for a bachelor’s degree. This is in accordance with the OAPSE wage scale effective 3/1/24.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLITES:

Assume responsibility for implementing the Head Start Program at selected site, general management and

program administration. Work closely with parents in the development of their children and act as advocate for

families in dealing with issues in the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform job according to the Head Start Performance Standards, Program Written Plans and ODJFS Daycare licensing rules.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all children enrolled in the program by making certain no child will be left alone or unsupervised while under the care of staff, consultants and volunteers.
  • Perform job according to Head Start Child Development and Early Learning framework and assigned school readiness (goals) and chosen curriculum.
  • Become familiar with community resources in the specific areas served.
  • Engage families as full partners in their child’s development and learning by encouraging them to volunteer in the classroom and in decision making groups.
  • Help families access and follow up on treatment, support, and intervention programs, including medical homes, by explaining screening and assessment results that require follow-up, initiating referrals, supporting the family in scheduling appointments, and following up to determine results.
  • Complete and keep up to date agency reports on children’s health and immunizations. Submit reports on the due date.
  • Participate with team in creating and implementing child’s IEP goals.
  • Participate in training opportunities given by local, state, and national entities in order to remain current with continuing education and professional development.
  • Provide assistance with physicals, medical and dental follow-ups using dental curriculum.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment that allows children to feel accepted and encourages communication and promotes physical and emotional security for each child.
  • Provide and/or utilize a variety of age-appropriate equipment, activities and opportunities to promote the physical, cognitive and creative abilities of each child.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments for the purpose of writing and implementing daily lesson plans and for sharing information with the parents through home visits and center conferences.
  • Conduct initial home visits explaining curriculum and complete Individual Child Profile, as well as end of the year home visit.
  • Observe and document anecdotal notes on all children (using the ongoing assessment tool, Teaching Strategies Gold)
  • Schedule a minimum of (1) educational field trips per school year. (we decided on this last year sue to funding and transportation issues)
  • Work with family to ensure child maintains a minimum of 85% attendance. Submit attendance records to proper manager.
  • Participate in the IEP referral process.
  • Ensure family confidentiality by limiting conversations about children and families and access to their records to those directly involved in providing services to them.
  • Maintain professional boundaries in relationships with staff and families by distinguishing between others’ needs and one’s own, guarding against abuse of power and sexual misconduct, and using appropriate language.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with parents, co-workers and managers.
  • Shop for food and other items needed for cooking activities.
  • Comply with all CACFP requirements including completing USDA forms and submitting them to proper manager.
  • Comply with all regulations in our written Workers’ Comp policy and OSHA regulations.
  • Be responsible for cleaning classroom daily.
  • Perform Bus Monitoring duties.
  • Perform other responsibilities resulting in the efficient and effective operation of the Program.

Bus Monitor

  • Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus according to policy
  • Ensure that all children are secured in weight and height appropriate child restraint systems and that while seated all adults use available seat belts.
  • Visually observe the health of all children as they board the bus, communicate any concerns regarding the child’s health with driver and/or parent.
  • Use appropriate communication and intervention skills with children on the bus.
  • Greet each parent as they escort their child to and from the bus.
  • Assure release of each child to responsible adult (as indicated on release list).
  • Ensure that no child is left unattended while on the bus, following all procedures to prevent a child from being left on the bus.
  • Assist the driver with evacuation drills, and any emergency situations
  • Complete all necessary documentation including; case notes, accident report, etc.
  • Maintain positive communications with parents, drivers, and co-workers. Relay information regarding child or family as indicated. Remember you are the parent’s first contact with the program each day.

QUALIFICATIONS: All of the following job requirements must be met according to day care licensing laws of the state of Ohio and the local Head Start Program.

  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred. Teaching experience in preschool programs preferred.
  • Have on file a medical report stating that the person is free from communicable disease and physically capable to work with young children, i.e. walk, run, bend, reach stoop, and crawl when necessary.
  • Provide three (3) references not related to potential employee.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of all socio-economic status, particularly low income and/or special needs families.
  • Submit to BCI and FBI background checks and a drug test.
  • Has never been convicted of or pleaded guilty to any act of violence and/or child abuse and/or has never had a child removed from his/her home.
  • Be knowledgeable of ODJFS guidelines.
  • Ability to lift thirty pounds.
  • Has reliable transportation and valid driver’s license with proof of auto insurance.
