Job Description
The Health and Safety Advisor role working for MEPAU Outback Carbon Team on a 2 year fixed-term contract. The role will involve providing Health and Safety advice, supporting compliance and assurance to the MEPAU Outback Carbon Team and actively contributing to the successful and safe delivery of the Outback Carbon project.
This position reports directly to the Head of HSE and collaborates daily with the Carbon Business Process Manager, while also working closely with the HSE team as required.
Reporting to the Head of HSE, you will:
- Provide Health & Safety mentoring, guidance, and support to Outback Carbon team.
- Work closely with MEPAU Principal Health and Safety Advisor to drive a proactive HSE culture and ensure alignment with corporate HSE strategy and objectives.
- Contributes to the development, review, and continuous improvement of MEPAU HSE standards, procedures, and processes, ensuring alignment with organizational and Outback carbon project objectives, as well as regulatory obligations, in close collaboration with the MEPAU Principal Health and Safety Advisor.
- Undertake assurance activities to meet regulatory requirements and maintain safe, reliable operations across the Outback Carbon Assets.
- Building & maintaining relationships with external & regulatory stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and support in contractor management to ensure contractors understand MEPAU’s Health Safety and regulatory requirements when performing work on behalf of MEPAU.
- Communicate best Health & Safety practices and lessons learned across the Outback Carbon project team.
- Support MEPAU HSE Coordinator in providing relevant HSE statistical information relating to KPI’s, conformances and nonconformances for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.
- Assist with the development and site-based implementation of Safety Program initiatives.
- Coordinate and if required facilitate risk assessment workshops and assist supervisors and frontline personnel with hazard identification and reporting.
- Ensure HSE reporting requirements are met both for internal and external stakeholders.
- When required Travel to site and assist Outback carbon farm Managers in carrying out effective visible safety leadership.
- Provide HSE support in line with MEPAU incident reporting & investigation process to ensure compliance and alignment with HSE objectives.
- Provide support for MEPAU’s health safety and environmental information management systems, including but not limited to the platforms and processes.
- Provides emergency response support by maintaining relevant plans and actively participating in the Emergency Management Team (EMT).
- Provide H&S into the development of the HSE and Outback Carbon budget.
- Ensure projects (Health and Safety related) are delivered within approved budgets.

To be successful in this role, you will require the following skills and experience:
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience within the Agricultural, Construction, Mining or similar industry in a Health & Safety advisor role.
- Oil & Gas (desirable)
- Tertiary qualifications related to occupational health and safety.
- Good working knowledge of applicable HSE regulations, codes of practice, international standards.
- Training in root cause analysis tool (desirable).
- Training in Lead Auditing (desirable).
- Familiarity with use of HSE management systems / databases.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision within a team.
- Strong exposure to safe operating principles and HSE systems.
- Advanced software proficiency (Microsoft office and HSE management systems).
- Sound organizational skills, including multitasking, time-management and influencing without authority.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill, high attention to detail and a can-do attitude.
