Applications are invited for the post of Health and Safety Officer (Fire) in the Health, Safety, and Business Continuity Directorate.
This post is the Competent Person for fire safety for the University, covering both offices, laboratories, and over 3,000 student bedrooms. If they have suitable competence, their remit will include the Grade 1 listed Founders Building. The core of the role is the management of Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Strategies, the provision of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans for students and staff and supporting various projects.
We require a calm and professional individual able to work stakeholders across the organisation to create and implement plans and procedures. The role reports to the Director of Health, Safety and Business Continuity who is the strategic lead for the university in this area. The ability to communicate accurately and diplomatically is essential as are excellent organisational skills. A recognised qualification in health and safety is an advance as is experience in fire safety, in particular in compliance.
The Health and Safety Office is customer focused, assisting and empowering colleagues to allow them to make appropriate decisions, in this case in terms of business continuity and emergency planning. While legal compliance is the minimum, we strive for excellence and best practice within the Higher Education sector and this applies to improving our organisational resilience. This is achieved through building relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally.
