Job Purpose:

To support the delivery of therapeutic recreation programs within the Adult Day Program by engaging clients in meaningful activities that promote physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.
The role enhances client experience by providing compassionate support, monitoring participation and progress, and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Recreational Therapy Aide in planning monthly activity calendars and delivering therapeutic recreation programs and activities that align with clients' interests, abilities, and care plans.

2. Facilitate group and sometimes one-on-one activities designed to promote physical, emotional, and social engagement.

3. Observe and track client participation levels in daily activities, providing feedback to the ADP Manager to support the ongoing development and customization of future programs.

4. Set up and take down equipment and materials for recreational activities.

5. Ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing of program areas and equipment in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

6. Aid clients with mobility and toileting needs, ensuring comfort and dignity, as needed (Certified HCA’s only).

7. Engage clients in meaningful conversation and provide companionship to enhance their day-to-day experience.

8. Maintain accurate observation of client participation, progress, and any changes in behavior or health and report to full time staff/ADP manager.

9. Support the overall operation of the Adult Day Program, including assisting with mealtimes, events, and outings.

10. Foster a positive and inclusive environment where clients feel valued, respected, and empowered.

The youth will have the opportunity to learn the following hard and soft skills:

Hard Skills:

  • Basic healthcare support (vital signs, mobility assistance, recognizing changes in client condition)
  • Recreation and program facilitation for older adults
  • Nutrition support and safe food handling practices
  • Documentation, record-keeping, and use of administrative systems
  • Infection control, safety procedures, and emergency response awareness

Soft Skills:

  • Communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills
  • Teamwork and collaboration in a care setting
  • Problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic situations
  • Emotional intelligence, patience, and professionalism
  • Time management, organization, and attention to detail

Qualifications Required:
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program:

- Age between 15 to 30 years

- Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident (International students are not eligible)

Competencies:

· Passion to work with seniors and understanding senior care

· Ability to support recreational programs and group activities

· Basic computer skills

· Empathy, patience and a client-centered approach

· Good organization and time management skills

Working Conditions:

Summer youth are required to work 8 weeks, 35 hour/week. Hours will be 8am to 4pm including one hour of unpaid lunch break. The job includes some physical tasks such as setting up equipment or supporting mobility..

Pay: $20.00 per hour
