Healthcare Assistance

Location: Donegal

Contract: Full-time / Permanent

Service Type: Residential Services – Adults with Disabilities

Purpose of the Role

The Healthcare Assistant provides high-quality, person-centred support to residents in line with HIQA Regulations, National Standards, and organisational policies. The role focuses on supporting residents’ daily living, health, wellbeing, dignity, and independence in a safe and respectful environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Person-Centred Care & Support
  • Support residents with activities of daily living (personal care, hygiene, dressing, mobility, meals)
  • Promote residents’ choice, dignity, privacy, and independence
  • Support residents to engage in meaningful activities and community inclusion
  • Follow individual care plans and risk assessments
  • Health, Safety & Safeguarding
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies and report any concerns promptly
  • Support infection prevention and control practices
  • Promote a safe environment by following health and safety procedures
  • Assist with moving and handling in line with training
  • Medication & Clinical Support
  • Support medication management in accordance with training and policy
  • Monitor residents’ wellbeing and report changes to senior staff
  • Support attendance at medical and allied health appointments
  • Communication & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate daily records and documentation
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Report incidents, accidents, or concerns in line with policy
  • Teamwork & Professional Practice
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Attend mandatory training, supervision, and staff meetings
  • Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times

Essential Criteria

  • QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support, Nursing Studies, or equivalent
  • Experience working in a health or social care setting (desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of person-centred care principles
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Respectful, reliable, and caring approach

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working with adults with disabilities
  • Training in safeguarding, medication support, and infection control
  • Experience in residential care settings
