Job Purpose
As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA), you will work as part of a dedicated care team under the supervision of nursing staff to provide personal and practical care to residents. Your role is vital in supporting residents with daily activities, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with all aspects of daily living including personal hygiene, mobility, dressing, feeding, toileting, and social activities.
- Provide physical and emotional support to residents, promoting independence and person-centred care.
- Observe and report any changes in residents’ physical or emotional condition to the Nurse in Charge.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided.
- Assist with meals, including preparation, serving, and feeding if required.
- Support residents in maintaining their independence and participating in meaningful activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Treat all residents, families, and staff with dignity and respect.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and protocols of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home.
Essential Requirements
- QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support (or equivalent) – minimum of 2 modules completed including Care Skills and Care of the Older Person.
- Previous experience in a nursing home or healthcare setting (desirable).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A caring, compassionate, and respectful approach to resident care.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and evenings.
Desirable Attributes
- Manual handling, infection control, and safeguarding training (current certification an advantage).
- Understanding of HIQA standards and compliance.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
