We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental, Sustainability & Health & Safety (ES&HS) Specialist to join our manufacturing facility. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, implementing sustainability initiatives, and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational health and safety regulations, environmental science and sustainability practices. The role is expected to identify risks and opportunities and to personally implement or drive corrective actions to completion, rather than acting solely in an advisory capacity.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety:
Owns and maintains the site Safety Management System.
Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate workplace hazards.
Organise and provide training to employees on health and safety practices and procedures, through trainer-led instruction, Toolbox Talks or Safety Communications.
Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Regulatory Compliance:
Stay up to date on changes to environmental, sustainability, and health and safety regulations.
Manages and organises the site EHS Employee Training matrix, including Manual Handling, Chemical Awareness, Forklift Certification, etc.
Involved in employee Induction and Contractor Management.
Organises the Certification of Lifting Equipment
Ensure compliance with Irish health, safety, and environmental legislation, including requirements of the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and relevant local authorities.
Maintain records and documentation related to permits, safety inspections, and training.
Environmental & Sustainability Compliance:
Monitor and ensure compliance with all environmental Health & Safety Regulations.
Responsible for site monitoring of water use, and wastewater sampling and monitoring.
Develop and implement programs to minimize environmental impact, including waste reduction & pollution prevention.
Conduct environmental audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure regulatory compliance.
Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other sustainable practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote sustainability initiatives and engage employees in environmental stewardship.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
2+ years of experience in environmental, sustainability, and health and safety roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data and metrics related to ES&HS performance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Experience with ISO 14001 management systems is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to drive change and implement sustainable practices within an organisation.
