We are a 30 year old family-owned electrical contracting company. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service while maintaining the highest standards of workplace safety. We are seeking our COR certification and want to hire an experienced Health & Safety Officer to oversee the process and guide us through it.
About the Position
We are committed to worker safety and have a strong safety culture. We are looking for someone to help us finetune our processes and draft formal policies and procedures. Experience in using, choosing, and recommending safety software solutions will be an asset. As our Health and Safety Officer, you would split your time between field sites and the main office with the following responsibilities:
1) Guidance and Compliance:
- Providing guidance on legislation, regulations, and policies to management, employees and contractors.
- Conducting regular site audits, hazard analyses, and PPE compliance checks.
- Evaluating and improving safety policies and the hazard assessment process.
2) Procedures and Tracking:
- Writing and updating procedures and safe work policies.
- Tracking and scheduling tool, equipment, and vehicle maintenance.
- Drafting and managing the emergency response plans for sites.
- Preparing and maintaining safety reports and recording job site statistics.
3) Orientation and Training:
- Advising on and conducting safety orientations, training, and education for employees.
- Tracking training efforts and required certifications.
- Organizing specialized site training as required.
4) Investigations and Assessment:
- Completing and assisting with incident and near-miss investigations
- Managing WSIB and Early Return to Work claims and working with external representatives
5) Project Management
- Managing projects such as: COR implementation, WSIB Excellence Program, Health and Safety software implementation, and various government programs

We are looking for an independent personality with excellent communication and organization skills and comprehensive experience with OHSA, COR, and the construction industry.
Required Skills and Background:
- Degree in Occupational Health & Safety (or a combination of certifications and practical experience)
- Minimum of 5 years field experience in Health & Safety in construction or electrical contracting.
- Practical experience implementing COR certifications and requirements in the construction industry.
- Experience with OHSA and WSIB
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
- Able to obtain a Secret level clearance

- Experience researching, selecting, and implementing Health & Safety software
