Healthcare Assistant

Pay Rate: £23,400

Shift Patterns: 37.5 hours per week & alternative weekends expected

Day shift: 7:25am - 19:40pm | Night Shift: 19:25pm - 7:40am

Company Description

Our Healthcare Division offers a variety of services including Mental Health, Addictions, Brain Injury and Rehabilitation and Recovery treatment plans.

Whilst previous experience is a plus, the key things you need to excel in this role are empathy and a passion for caring, flexibility and a strong sense of responsibility. Job Description

You will provide support with day to day activities, whilst encouraging and promoting independent living. As part of our team alongside our qualified staff, you’ll help to meet the psychological and emotional needs of a diverse group of individuals, with varying degrees of either mental health or physical issues. Every day, you'll make a positive difference to their lives.

Our teams provide care and support for individuals with different conditions at Priory sites all across the UK.

It would be ideal if you have previous experience gained in a similar role. However whilst this is valuable, we are looking for individuals who display the right values and behaviours in order to make a difference to people’s lives. You should be keen to learn and show compassion to care for the people we support. Not only is full training provided, but there are numerous career pathways available to you, including our Nurse Apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities:

  • Support our residents with in-house activities and hobbies
  • Providing support to achieve every day goals including personal care tasks, such as washing, dressing, eating and toileting
  • Manage some behaviours that challenge
  • Assistant and support to attend medical appointments
  • Observe, monitor and record physical and emotional well-being, and promptly report any changes to senior staff
  • Provide emotional support to individuals and their families
  • Support and monitor healthcare needs, including administering medication and temperature checks
  • Understand communication needs and adapt your communication to each individual
  • Work with other professionals, such as nurses and therapists, to ensure consistency of support
  • Analyse an individual’s needs and draw up a focused support plans

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring nature
  • Empathy, understanding and patience
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedure
  • The ability to anticipate and respond to challenges
  • Competent in verbal and written English
  • A healthcare qualification is desirable, but not essential

Additional Information

Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Priory Hospital Mill Garth is a high dependency rehabilitation unit for adult male patients. We focus on active rehabilitation and recovery (R&R) for people with a range of mental health disorders. We believe that anyone with a mental health condition should be given the best chance possible to lead a happy and fulfilling life, and our aim is to provide individuals with the confidence and skills to move or return to the community.

Disclosure

All roles will be subject to a successful disclosure at an appropriate level from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Access NI or Disclosure Scotland, and the cost of this will be covered by Priory.
