Healthcare Assistant – Intensive Care Unit

  • Waipapa Hospital, Christchurch
  • 0.6FTE (24 hours a week), Permanent role
  • Monday to Sunday, 12 hour shifts from 640am – 710pm

About the Role

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As a Healthcare Assistant in ICU you will demonstrate responsibility for your own work within the healthcare team and will complete key tasks as co-ordinated by the Registered Nurse.

You will be reviewing stock levels and liaising with central supply around back orders. Some patient care delivery as well as general cleaning and tidying of the unit will also be part of your role.

You will enjoy being busy and don’t mind that the role can be at times physically demanding.

About the Service

Our Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary level 3 ICU based in the Waipapa building and currently resourced for 25 beds. We are a multidisciplinary team who see 1,800 patients annually.

We have a diverse patient group and provide care for a variety of diagnoses in both adults and children requiring intensive care, including those following cardio thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and trauma.

About you

We are looking for a great communicator with a resilient attitude within our large team and have the ability to prioritise your workload effectively. You will establish and maintain positive relationships with other members of healthcare teams and act professionally at all times. Ideally you will have experience as a Healthcare Assistant in an acute environment.

  • Ability to work Monday to Sunday
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A high attention to detail and the ability to relate to patients and their families.
  • A good use of initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Experience in healthcare would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Ideally experience as a Healthcare Assistant or similar.
