For more than 50 years, Accredited Supports to the Community (ASC), a not-for-profit charitable society, has been providing services across south central Alberta. We serve over 1500 people a year including children, youth, and adults diagnosed with disabilities, families, and seniors Olds, Airdrie, Strathmore and surrounding areas.

Position Description:

As a Healthy Families Practitioner, you will provide one-on-one parenting support and child development information to families prenatally and with children 0-6 years of age. In partnership with families, you will help manage the complex challenges of modern life and parenting. This position includes a specialized focus on supporting children who may be experiencing developmental delays or require additional supports. The successful candidate will use your excellent communication skills and non-judgmental attitude to guide families towards their goals to strengthen their family.

This full-time, 32 hour per week, position will work in the Wheatland County area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform case management activities according to Healthy Families policies and procedures in a highly confidential and professional manner;
  • Effectively manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision;
  • Schedule and attend home visitations;
  • Apply a developmental lens with an understanding of disability and neurodiversity;
  • Support families in understanding developmental milestones and identifying potential concerns;
  • Provide hands-on coaching and modelling of strategies to support physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development;
  • Assist families with navigating assessments, referrals, and service systems;
  • Support caregiver confidence and capacity to advocate for their child’s needs;
  • Adapt approaches to meet the needs of families experiencing barriers such as rural isolation or limited access to services;
  • Assist clients in setting goals and identify steps to achieve their goals;
  • Identify community providers whose services are relevant to clients’ needs;
  • Collect and enter data online;
  • Attend and participate in individual supervision with the Program Director collaborating for family/client concerns.

Education and Requirements:

  • A Degree or Diploma in a Human Services field will be considered an asset;
  • 2 years of experience working with families and children or an equivalent combination of education and work experience;
  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with 2 million liability insurance for travel on scheduled workdays;
  • Knowledge of mental health and child development;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage without judgement with individuals and families;
  • The ability to conduct interviews covering extremely sensitive and confidential issues;
  • The ability to effectively problem solve in crisis situations with little supervision;
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development (0–6 years);
  • Experience supporting families withdevelopmental delays, disabilities, or complex needs;
  • Strong skills in organizational, time management, and teamwork;
  • Expertise to prioritize work tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record and Child Intervention Record check.
