Position Summary
MCA Contracting Ltd. is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator with strong grade work experience to join our team. This role requires a high level of accuracy in grading, shaping, and finishing work, as well as the ability to operate in tight, complex environments such as bridge sites, culvert installations, and active roadway projects.
This position requires regular out-of-town work across Northern Ontario. Candidates must be willing and able to travel and stay out of town as required.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate excavators, dozers, and loaders for grading, fine grading, trenching, and site preparation.
- Perform accurate grade work including shaping, leveling, and finishing to specification.
- Work confidently around utilities, structures, bridge abutments, and traffic control setups.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and elevations.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Coordinate with supervisors, surveyors, and crew members to maintain production and accuracy.
- Follow all company safety policies and environmental requirements.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and equipment logs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience with a strong focus on grade work (this is a must).
- Proven ability to perform fine grading and work to precise elevations.
- Experience in municipal, civil, or infrastructure construction (roads, culverts, bridges, underground).
- Comfortable working in tight or high-risk environments (traffic, structures, utilities).
- Ability to read grade stakes, laser levels, and site drawings.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and adaptable to changing site conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with clean abstract (required).
- Heavy equipment certification (preferred).
- Willingness and ability to work out of town is required.
