Position Overview:
Stateline Logistics Group are seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Driver Trainer and Safety Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional in HGV driving with a strong background in training, health and safety, and compliance. This role is pivotal in ensuring our drivers are well-trained, safety-conscious, and compliant with all industry regulations while promoting a culture of safety and efficiency across the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Driver Induction and Training:
- Conduct comprehensive induction training for new drivers, ensuring familiarity with company policies, safety protocols, and operational expectations.
- Provide ongoing training and upskilling to current drivers, e.g. eco-driving, tachograph use, and manual handling.
- Develop and deliver bespoke training programs tailored to specific company needs.
Safety Leadership:
- Take full control of the company’s health and safety, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety checks across the company, identifying and mitigating risks.
- Create, update, and implement risk assessments; ensure all assessments are clearly communicated and understood by drivers and staff.
- Maintain the company’s audit readiness for health and safety inspections.
Driver Assessment and Monitoring:
- Conduct regular assessments of new and current drivers to evaluate skills, adherence to safety protocols, and overall performance.
- Act as a passenger on driver routes to gain insights and provide feedback.
- Monitor and provide feedback on eco-driving practices to improve fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with HR and the Transport Manager to address driver performance, training needs, and compliance issues.
- Foster strong communication between drivers and management, promoting a positive and safety-first culture.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all safety and training documentation is up-to-date and compliant with legal and industry standards.
- Manage and maintain records of driver training, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Act as the company’s First Aid Responder, ensuring readiness for any health emergencies.
- Provide clear guidance on emergency procedures to all drivers and staff.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Extensive experience as an HGV driver with a clean driving record.
- Certified CPC Instructor and Manual Handling Instructor. (preferred but not essential)
- First Aid Responder qualification. (preferred but not essential)
- Proven expertise in creating and implementing risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of tachograph use and regulations.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with drivers and management.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Training-focused mindset with a passion for developing others.
- Strong commitment to health and safety standards and a proactive approach to compliance.
Shift:
While the core working week will be Monday to Friday 06:00am to 15:00pm or 09:00am to 18:00pm, we require flexibility to work early mornings, late evenings and weekends to suit driver availability i.e. work Saturday to conduct driver training and early morning or late evening to train driver on the role.
Pay:
Salary range is €45,000 to €50,000 annually. Salary is negotiable depending on the candidates experience.
