About the School:
STAR Early College School, located on the historic Erasmus Hall campus in Brooklyn, NY, is a 6–12 early college school in partnership with Brooklyn College. Our mission is to empower a diverse community of learners through rigorous academic instruction, a college-going culture, and meaningful access to postsecondary opportunities beginning in high school.
Position Overview:
STAR is seeking a skilled and passionate Spanish teacher who is committed to fostering language proficiency, intercultural awareness, and academic excellence. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging, immersive instruction across multiple proficiency levels and will be instrumental in preparing students for both Regents-aligned courses and college-level language work. Courses may include Spanish I through Spanish III, Heritage Speakers, and potential Brooklyn College course offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach multiple sections of Spanish, including both novice and intermediate levels
- Design and implement ACTFL-aligned, student-centered lessons that emphasize communication, culture, and critical thinking
- Use varied assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units and school-wide cultural initiatives (e.g., Hispanic Heritage Month, International Night)
- Support student development through advisories, after-school enrichment, and college readiness activities
- Maintain consistent communication with families, using a strength-based and culturally responsive approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NYS Certification in Spanish (Grades 7–12)
- Experience teaching Spanish in an urban public-school setting
- Proficiency in project-based learning and differentiated instruction
- Familiarity with College Now or dual-enrollment programs is a plus
- Strong classroom management and commitment to high expectations for all students
