About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui as a Transition Officer (Holidays Act).

You will work alongside a group of experienced payroll professionals to monitor payroll compliance. Join our team and play a crucial role in the health system at a local level.


About the Team/Service/ Location

In this role, you will provide oversight and support to the Payroll teams and stakeholders to ensure ongoing compliance with the Holidays Act, tax and any other legislative regulations.

About you

We have a vacancy for someone who is passionate and keen to work in a complex environment and can appreciate that payroll is not just pushing buttons.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliant configuration is maintained in the payroll systems
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory, safety and regulatory requirements as applicable
  • Demonstrate performance improvement and efficiency
  • Support the implementation of agreed continuous improvement initiatives, monitors, quality and devises systems to support continuous improvement
  • Conduct audit checks to ensure that correct data is being recorded and correct payments are being made to employees
  • Provide support with analysis and calculations required for ongoing Holidays Act Remediation payments
  • Develop and run reports to ensure employee data is of a high quality and complete
  • Implement MECA configurations
  • Actively seek to identify and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement, bringing forward ideas for solutions

Our ideal candidate for this role will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years payroll experience in payroll in the health sector
  • Have a sound understanding of the Holidays Act and experience working with Holidays Act remediation and rectification
  • Experience in payroll system implementations and documenting payroll processes
  • Experience in large volume data analysis
  • Thrive under time pressures
  • Have the ability to analyse data and problem solve
  • Work well independently yet also be an active contributor within the wider team
