Job Summary:
The Horticulture Support Worker supports the delivery of a structured Social and Therapeutic Horticulture service for adults attending Praxis Care residential and day services.
The role involves facilitating horticulture-based activities with individuals and small groups as part of a defined horticulture programme. The focus of the role is to support participant wellbeing, engagement, and confidence through meaningful interaction with nature and horticultural activity.
The Horticulture Support Worker operates within the established horticulture service pathway, supporting participants from referral through programme participation and review processes.
The role requires a consistent, dependable individual who is able to work collaboratively within a team, communicate clearly, and follow through on agreed responsibilities.
About The Role
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise and facilitate structured horticulture sessions with individuals and small groups as part of the horticulture programme.
- Support participants to engage in horticulture activities suited to their interests and abilities.
- Maintain clear programme records including planning, reviews and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and relevant staff supporting participants.
- Ensure safe use of horticultural tools and equipment during activities.
- Maintain a structured, calm and supportive horticulture environment during programme activities.
- Work collaboratively as part of a small interdependent team, following agreed procedures and programme structure
Essential Criteria (Required)
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A recognised horticulture qualification (minimum QQI/FETAC Level 5 or equivalent).
- Minimum two years’ experience in horticulture or facilitating nature-based activities.
- Competence in the safe use of horticultural tools and equipment.
- Proven experience planning, organising and delivering structured programmes or activities.
- Full clean driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience working within a day service, social care service or similar structured community setting.
- Experience supporting individuals and facilitating groups with additional needs within a planned programme.
- Strong organisational skills, particularly in relation to programme planning, reviews and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a small interdependent team, including sharing information and following agreed processes.
- Ability to engage constructively with colleagues, and contribute to practical solutions when matters need to be addressed.
Required Criteria
- Full valid driving licence and access to own vehicle. Right to Work in the Republic of Ireland
Desired Criteria
- Experience working within the health and social care field.
Skills Needed
Attention to detail, Communication, Teamwork, Ability to support clients with learning disabilities and/or complex needs
