Host/Hostess

One of the city’s most famous department stores is thrilled to announce the opening of an exciting new restaurant. Situated within our Grade II-listed boutique, renowned for its iconic mock-Tudor façade built from the timbers of two ships, this venture aims to mirror the charm and luxury of the store.

As the Host/Hostess, you will play a crucial role in making that first impression unforgettable. Our restaurant is known for its lively ambiance and a team that radiates positivity.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of service for all our guests and overseeing our table booking systems to optimise restaurant capacity. You’ll lead the team in taking reservations over the telephone while supporting the day-to-day running of the restaurant. Most importantly, you will be the first person our guests meet and the last person to see them out. We’re looking for a charismatic leader who can make a lasting impression and build strong rapport, turning our guests into regulars.

Salary: £26,000 + Excellent Tronc Package

Responsibilities:

  • Guest Engagement: Engage with guests warmly and professionally, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Reservation Management: Manage reservations and seating using Seven Rooms.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with the service and kitchen teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Issue Resolution: Address guest inquiries and resolve any issues promptly and effectively.
  • Service Excellence: Welcome guests and provide exceptional service during their dining experience in collaboration with a team of servers.
  • Host Stand Management: Manage the host stand, review the reservation book, and make recommendations for table section setup.
  • Dining Room Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness of each section of the dining room and make necessary improvements, as well as check each table prior to opening to ensure proper setup.
  • Menu Knowledge: Develop a complete working knowledge of the menus, menu ingredients, and restaurant information.
  • Table Set-Ups: Manage table set-ups.
  • Versatility: Able to work in all areas of the restaurant, including the bar and the floor.
  • Cash Handling: Follow cash handling procedures.
  • Query Management: Manage guest queries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Brand Standards: Ensure compliance with brand standards.
  • Target Achievement: Strive to achieve departmental targets.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience: Proven experience in a similar role within a fast-paced restaurant.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to remain calm under pressure.
  • Reservation Systems: Experience with Seven Rooms or similar reservation systems is a plus.
  • Efficiency: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Approachability: A friendly, approachable demeanour and a passion for delivering excellent customer service.
  • Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills.
  • Initiative: Ability to use own initiative and work well as part of a team.
  • Communication: Good communication skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £34,000.00 per year
