HR Specialist - HR Operations and Support to HR Director

Permanent Role. Full Time Hours.


This role is aligned to the HSE Pay Scale of Clerical Officer Grade V.

(Under the Governance of Mercy University Hospital Cork CLG.)


Mercy University Hospital (MUH)

Located in the heart of Cork City, MUH is a voluntary, general, acute hospital catering for both public and private patients. The hospital provides approximately 325 beds and offers a wide range of specialities which provide in-patient, day patient, outpatient and emergency services open 24 hrs.

Responsibilities include:

HR Operations and Administration

  • Co-ordinate and host mandatory Global Induction for new starters every 6-8 weeks including:
  • Invite and track all attendees, liaises with managers to ensure staff are rostered to attend.
  • Co-ordinate speakers.
  • Update presentation as required and review content for replication.
  • Meet and greet all attendees and introduce speakers throughout the day.
  • Book meeting space and arrange catering requirements.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare all required documentation and reports for MUH Workforce Planning Committee, minute meeting if required and issue all post meeting documentation as required.
  • Compile documentation and submit all approved posts for submission through HSE Post Prioritization Process.
  • Compile and generate all ad-hoc report requests for HSE South West Region / RHA and CEO Office in a timely manner and within prescribed deadline.
  • Process, track and submit all HSE Job Evaluations to HSE South West Region.
  • Develop standards and procedures and audit of same to ensure relevance.
  • Ensure deadlines are met and that service levels are maintained.

PA Support

  • Provide comprehensive and high-level administrative support to the HR Director
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills exercising discretion and diplomacy ensuring confidentiality, respect and privacy is maintained.
  • Managing the commitments of the Director of Human Resources' diary.
  • Organise and convey meetings as instructed by the HR Director
  • Committee liaison - provide professional and administrative support to various committees chaired by Director of Human Resources or other executive leads as may be required.
  • Minute union meetings as required.
  • Support in document preparation and minuting of meetings for the People Sub-Committee of the Board of Directors.


Eligibility Criteria - Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc required by the closing date for job applications:

  • HR / Business Administration or similar qualification preferred
  • Previous administrative experience of at least 2 - 3 years
  • Excellent Communication, Organisational and Time Management skills
  • Hospital experience is desirable not essential.
  • Human resources experience desirable not essential.
  • Maximising the use of ICT in ensuring work is completed to a high standard proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Power Point & Word
  • Proficiency in MS Teams including scheduling.
