Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented HVAC Sheet Metal Estimator & Production Coordinator to join our team. This dual-role position is responsible for accurately estimating sheet metal ductwork projects in the HVAC industry and coordinating with the production teams to ensure timely and precise job execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SMACNA standards, HVAC system design, and relevant software platforms used for estimating, design, and production scheduling.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing floor experience (plasma cutting, bending, assembly)
Translate written component dimensions received from projects into actual format using HVAC software tools.
Familiarity with HVAC systems, ductwork types, fabrication methods, and installation practices.
Translate awarded project estimates into production-ready formats using HVAC- specific software tools
QA/QC the final product to confirm with expectations before shipping.
Estimating:
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC sheet metal projects, including labor, materials, and other costs associated with code compliant work against plans, specifications, and/or field takeoffs.
- Review general notes, architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings to determine project scope and requirements.
- Analyze project specifications and apply SMACNA standards to ductwork sizing and design. At times required to do drawing takeoffs to assist the job site teams.
- Participate in bid reviews and value engineering exercises.
- Maintain historical cost data and update pricing databases regularly.
Design & Production Coordination:
- Translate awarded project estimates into production-ready formats using HVAC-specific software tools (e.g., Autodesk Fabrication, Trimble, QuoteSoft, PractiCam or similar).
- Coordinated all production jobs with department manager
- Issue jobs to the production team with clear documentation, fabrication details, and timelines. Communicate complex designs to the production team before production of product.
- Assist with CAD/design to support production activities.
- Plasma / Laser Machine programming for awarded jobs.
- Monitor production schedules and coordinate with fabrication shop manager to ensure on-time delivery.
- Resolve discrepancies between estimates, design intent, and field modifications in real-time.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in HVAC estimating and/or sheet metal fabrication coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong working knowledge of SMACNA standards and codes.
- Proficiency with industry-standard estimating and production software (e.g., Trimble AutoBid, QuoteSoft, Autodesk Fabrication CADmep, Bluebeam).
- Familiarity with HVAC systems, ductwork types, fabrication methods, and installation practices.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and deadlines.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Field experience in HVAC installation or duct fabrication.
