Data Center Automation & Controls Engineer (BMS/EPMS)

About the Role

We are hiring an Automation & Controls Engineer for data center operations. This role owns the reliability of data acquisition across BMS/EPMS systems and drives the rollout and optimization of automation/control technology. The role will work closely with local FM/FE teams, acting as the bridge between on-site operations and standardized control system practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the reliability of data acquisition for BMS/EPMS systems at data centers;
  • Coordinate with local FM/FE teams to complete CMDB topology mapping, spot-checks, and ongoing upkeep;
  • Lead local teams through EMS measurement-point inventory, integration, governance, and optimization;
  • Coordinate with local FM/FE teams on alarm convergence strategy, EOP integration, and emergency drill execution;
  • Conduct technical optimization assessments for automation/controls, developing standardized solutions for recurring issues;
  • Own risk assessments, change reviews, O&M technical optimization, and global site audits for the automation/controls function;
  • Drive the rollout of key automation/control technologies across global data halls, ensuring stable equipment operation;
  • Oversee vendor on-site change work, including system deployment, commissioning, usage, optimization, and configuration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, HVAC, Computer Science, or a related field;
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, including 3+ years in data center O&M management or quality engineering;
  • Solid understanding of automation/control system architecture and operating logic, with awareness of logic optimization approaches;
  • Familiarity with BMS/EPMS systems and infrastructure equipment, with working knowledge of mainstream communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, MQTT, etc.);
  • Experience with system deployment, commissioning, usage, optimization, and strategy configuration; scripting/coding skills (Python, Shell, etc.) are a plus;
  • Fluent English is a hard requirement, with the ability to independently handle on-site technical communication and English documentation overseas; Chinese is a plus;
  • Strong cross-department, cross-team, and cross-cultural collaboration skills, with high execution and ownership;
  • Ability to work closely with local FM/FE teams to drive the buildout of IDC control systems, from monitoring through to full automation.

Candidates with the following backgrounds are still encouraged to apply

  • Hands-on commissioning experience with a BMS vendor; or
  • Experience with intelligent control systems in commercial buildings or large-scale factories (building automation or industrial controls), looking to transition into data centers.

What We Value

  • Strong safety awareness, compliance mindset, and respect for procedures.
  • Hands-on attitude and willingness to work in an on-site technical environment.
  • Reliability, punctuality, ownership, and attention to detail.
  • Clear communication and timely escalation when issues or risks appear.
  • Teamwork across IT operations, facility, security, asset management, vendors, and customer-side teams.
  • A learning mindset. Candidates do not need to know everything from day one, but they must be able to follow SOPs carefully and grow with the project.

What We Provide

  • A role in international data center operations, with exposure to stable, process-driven IDC delivery in Europe.
  • Role-specific onboarding, site induction, SOP training, and support from experienced technical and project teams.
  • Necessary work equipment, tools, PPE, and site access support according to project and site requirements.
