As an AI Algorithm Engineer, you would be working together with great SW developers, IQ Engineers, architects, and various stakeholders on different sites. When you are successful, end users will have Ring cameras that use your solutions to super-charge image processing, capturing every moment with improved clarity and great color, no matter whether it is day or night.

In this work, you will understand how AI models integrate with camera systems, from sensor data to imaging algorithms. You will leverage AI to improve image quality at the pixel level, enhance low-light performance, reduce noise, and optimize the imaging pipeline. You will design algorithms and deploy them into Ring's future products, ensuring they work on embedded hardware.

This work requires strong machine learning and signal processing skills, with proven competence in AI algorithm development. And more than that, it requires the capability to innovate AI solutions that work alongside imaging algorithms. It is essential to have understanding of both AI/ML and camera systems, and be able to learn from others. You should have genuine interest to use and keep adopting the latest tools for engineering, SW development, and testing.

In this position, you will work with the latest and greatest technologies in AI. You should monitor industry and academic developments to identify and apply state of the art techniques. Building the architecture for the future while delivering devices to the market is the key to success in the long run.

Key job responsibilities
As an AI Algorithm Engineer, your output is solutions for millions of devices, so strong algorithm design and network optimization skills are essential. You need to design camera algorithms that leverage AI and can be deployed on a device NPU or cloud. This means that you need to have strong machine learning skills and understand how AI models integrate with the imaging pipeline.

Responsibilities include developing new AI-based camera algorithms, designing solutions that are feasible for embedded deployment, and maintaining productization goals at all times.

There is always something that can be improved in image processing; your task is to figure out how to do it - this requires skills to innovate solutions and communicate with others. A solution can be an AI-based denoising algorithm, HDR enhancement, low-light improvement, or integration of AI with ISP pipeline; it is essential that whatever you do serves a purpose and is implementable on target platform.

You will work with hardware and prototype devices on Amazon Tampere premises. However, we have a flexible culture where ultimately results matter.

A day in the life
The video noise on low light needs to be improved. Next generation product has new awesome HW accelerator that is at your disposal. You will analyze the problem, research AI-based denoising approaches, prototype, design the algorithm, and deploy it into the product. The IQ team praises the improved user experience.

A next generation product requires improved HDR processing on cloud. You will analyze the cloud compute capabilities, design an AI-based HDR algorithm, and validate image quality vs. performance tradeoffs.

You have innovated a cool new feature to Ring product while having lunch at the office. Your manager is also excited, frees up your time, and collaborates with you on how to make a proof of concept. You show it to leadership and before you know it, it ships in the product.

About the team
At Tampere, we focus on cameras and peripherals related to them; the core of what makes the Ring camera user experience. Our team is a growing center of IQ firmware excellence, and some of the members are located in Cambridge. Accumulated knowledge in the imaging area is massive due to experienced personnel. We have a good spectrum ranging from junior to senior engineers. You will become a part of imaging ecosystem.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• MSc, or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Strong machine learning and deep learning fundamentals
• Experience with algorithm design and deployment into resource-constrained systems
• Proficiency in Python for ML development and prototyping
• Experience in AI algorithm development and productization, preferably for camera systems
• Strong understanding of image signal processing and imaging algorithms
• Experience with continuous integration, version control (git), unit testing
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to document and present ideas and designs
• Embrace and use latest AI tools and techniques for fast development

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with model optimization techniques (quantization, pruning, compression)
• Experience with AI accelerators and inference engines (TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, ExecuTorch, etc.)
• Understanding of embedded systems constraints
• Knowledge of camera systems and imaging pipelines
• Proficiency in C++ for algorithm implementation
• Experience with CMake and build systems
• Experience in designing APIs, libraries, and highly maintainable components
• Publications or contributions to AI/ML open source projects
