Job Summary:

We're seeking a highly motivated, bilingual (Spanish/English) Immigration Legal Assistant/Paralegal with a minimum of 3 years of experience to enhance the efficiency of our removal defense case handling and ensure effective management. In this role, you'll deliver a comprehensive range of legal support services under the guidance of a team of skilled attorneys within our collaborative firm environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects, particularly those involving EOIR and removal defense.
  • Drafts legal documents including but not limited to affidavits, cover letters, motions to reopen or terminate, briefs for immigration court, and personal statements for asylum or cancellation of removal.
  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, immigration court decisions, BIA precedents, and other relevant sources; provides written summaries or memos to support case strategy.
  • Interviews clients and witnesses to gather facts relevant to removal defense and prepares detailed declarations or summaries of their statements.
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, including hearing notices, charging documents (NTAs), evidence packets, supporting documentation for relief applications, and exhibits submitted to immigration court.
  • Assists attorneys with USCIS and EOIR application packet preparation including but not limited to asylum applications, cancellation of removal packets, adjustment of status, waivers, motions, country condition evidence, and supporting documentation for SIJS, DACA, and U-visas.
  • Tracks and maintains detailed records of billable hours and case deadlines, including hearing dates, biometrics appointments, and filing deadlines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including translation review and logistical support for court preparation.
  • Communicates with government agencies such as USCIS, ICE, and EOIR to follow up on filings, case status, biometrics, and other procedural matters.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree or better in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred; Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Three years experience in removal defense cases preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
