Industrial Preconstruction Manager - Engineering And Automation

We’re looking for a detailed-oriented Industrial Preconstruction Manager to support proposal development and estimating for our growing industrial and life science business. This is a newly created role focused on helping us win the right work by developing accurate, well-coordinated proposals while freeing up our engineering teams to focus on delivery.

You’ll work closely with Business Development, Engineering, and Project Managers to shape pursuit strategies, develop estimates, and support both new client acquisition and expansion opportunities within existing industrial accounts.

Duties:

• Coordinate and prepare proposals and qualification packages for industrial automation and controls projects.
• Develop cost estimates for control systems, automation, and electrical engineering scopes.
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, and technical discussions to inform accurate proposals.
• Collaborate closely with Business Development and Engineering teams throughout the pursuit process.
• Help standardize proposal tools, templates, and processes across our offices;
• Track proposal deadlines, outcomes, and pipeline activity.
• Represent Huffman Engineering at industry events and client meetings.
• Partner with Marketing to support case studies and market-facing content.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of experience in estimating, quoting, or preconstruction for industrial automation, life sciences, food & beverage, or regulated manufacturing projects;
• Strong understanding of control systems, automation, and electrical engineering in compliance-driven environments.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and RFPs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
• Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple pursuits at once
• Willingness to travel regionally as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $87,000 – $95,000
• Performance Bonus: up to 15% of base salary
• Total On-Target Earnings: $100,000 – $110,000
