Essential Functions
Provide Student Instruction in Program Courses
- Teach diverse student populations in Nondestructive Testing Technology methods.
- Additional courses may include:
- Blueprint Reading & Drawing/CAD Manufacturing Processes
- Electricity and Electrical Fundamentals Visual Inspection and Metallurgy
- Safety and Hazard Communication Standard/Chemical Right-to-Know
- Create new courses aligned with industry standards, including:
- Writing course objectives
- Developing syllabi, handouts, and tests
- Researching and selecting appropriate textbooks
- Update existing courses to ensure alignment with current industry standards.
- Ensure instructional facilities and equipment are maintained in safe, proper working order for student use.
- Conduct regular maintenance and upgrades as needed.
- Maintain permanent student records for courses taught.
- Enforce college policies on:
- Attendance
- Grading
- Student achievement
- Manage program supplies and equipment by:
- Completing purchase orders
- Submitting production orders
- Maintaining inventory records
- Attend seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, and workshops.
- Engage in self-study to remain current in all teaching responsibilities.
- Attend and support programs and college events, such as:
- Advisory committee meetings
- Open houses
- Division meetings
- Serve on college committees as requested.
- Act as an academic and technical advisor for Nondestructive Testing Technology students.
- Responsibilities include:
- Guiding students on appropriate courses
- Explaining college policies and procedures
- Maintaining records and forms for student articulation and program operations
- Work with immediate supervisor to create an annual professional development plan.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Instruction to create an individualized development plan (for new instructors).
- Substitute teach as needed.
- Develop budgets and advise the program chair.
- Promote and support the College and the Nondestructive Testing Technology program.
- Assist in student recruitment and equipment security.
- Supervise student helpers.
Marginal Functions
- Serve as a technical advisor from the Nondestructive Testing Technology program to assist other programs at the College in solving technical problems.
- Provide assistance to other College divisions/departments as requested to ensure College policies and procedures are followed. 3. Teach evening or off-campus Nondestructive Testing Technology classes for specific training requests.
- May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possess current knowledge and work experience in the Nondestructive Testing Technology. This will include the following: NDT test disciplines, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonics, radiography, eddy current, and visual inspection methods. Also included are blueprint reading, drawing, and manufacturing processes.
- Possess ability and experience in the operation and maintenance of NDT test equipment (x-ray, gamma-ray sources, ultrasonic equipment, eddy current equipment, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle testing equipment). Also included are calibration standards and related equipment, and being able to instruct others to operate equipment properly.
- Possess current knowledge of and understand applicable codes, standards, and specifications (AWS, ASME, API, MIL-STD’s, etc.) related to NDT, as well as various forms of manufacturing and fabrication.
- Possess certification as a Level II, and an AWS (CWI) certified welding inspector or work experience and education required to obtain certification within two years.
- Be able to demonstrate all types of testing methods and applications in various environmental situations.
- Minimum of two years of current work experience in the Nondestructive Testing Technology field (related to the instructional assignment) of 1st and 2nd quarter classes in the Nondestructive Testing Technology and a working knowledge of other courses in the program.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication competencies necessary to conduct classroom and laboratory instruction in working with a diverse student population.
- Possess a working knowledge of Hazard Communication Standard/Hazard and chemical Right-to-Know laws and regulations.
- Ability to develop, organize, and present course material in a logical and timely manner using effective communication skills and develop testing methods to determine student ability and progress.
- Be able to maintain a classroom/lab environment that is conducive to learning including the ability to maintain proper classroom order.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students and College staff in all types of working relationships.
- Be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (two to four hours) when supervising lab work and during class times (one to two hours).
- Be able to lift from the floor to five feet high and move supplies and materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Knowledge and skill in using PC computers working with word processing, spreadsheets, and AutoCAD or willing to develop skills within two (2) years of employment.
- Ability to use basic computer skills.
- The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Associate’s degree in Nondestructive Testing Technology.
- Two (2) years of experience in a Nondestructive Testing Technology field related to the area of assigned instruction of 1st and 2nd quarter classes.
- Demonstrated communication skills necessary to effectively carry out classroom and laboratory instruction in working with a diverse student population.
