Mo te tunga | About the role

The National Organised Crime Group (NOCG) is responsible for detecting, investigating, and prosecuting transnational and organised crime networks impacting New Zealand.

NOCG investigations are often challenging and complex, involving a full range of best practice investigation techniques. This commonly involves targeting organised criminal enterprises and actors, international syndicates or professional facilitators.

In this role you will be responsible for delivering reliable, accurate and timely intelligence products to decision makers and other clients supporting strategic, tactical, and operational decision-making.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information and data.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and develop intelligence products to a high standard.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Effectively manage competing priorities and demands to maintain quality of work under strict timeframes.
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive partnerships (internal and external).
  • Lead by example demonstrating a commitment to our values.

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge, and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others. You must be able to cope with the nature of the work we undertake and the challenges presented in Police Intelligence.

  • Proven public sector experience as an Intelligence practitioner. A relevant qualification is desired, but not essential.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong relationship management skills including engaging stakeholders in information sharing and collaboration.
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment.
  • A team player.

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

  • Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment.
  • Shift/Weekend work may be required to meet operational demand.
  • This role is based in the Auckland area. Some travel may be required.

This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is "to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business".

Security Clearance Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:

  • A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
  • A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu a-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $87,306 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
