Mo te tunga | About the role
The National Organised Crime Group (NOCG) is responsible for detecting, investigating, and prosecuting transnational and organised crime networks impacting New Zealand.
NOCG investigations are often challenging and complex, involving a full range of best practice investigation techniques. This commonly involves targeting organised criminal enterprises and actors, international syndicates or professional facilitators.
The ISO provides specialist, hands-on support that supports critical decision-making.
This involves proactive scanning and collection of data, information collation, and efficient storage, retrieval, and dissemination of intelligence. The ISO also identifies emerging trends, risks, and issues, delivering short-format, high-turnaround intelligence outputs to inform tactical and operational responses at various levels. By maintaining situational awareness and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, the ISO ensures the timely availability of relevant intelligence to support operational outcomes and community safety.
Key Accountabilities:
- Identify crime trends and organised crime activity.
- Assessing information and interrogate a range of data and information to draw valid conclusions.
- Add value to information obtained.
- Be proactive and enquiring.
- Work as a team member in a dynamic operational environment.
- Strong and effective communication skills including the ability to write clearly and succinctly and present work in a style that effectively influences the target audience.

You must be able to cope with the nature of the work we undertake and the challenges presented in Police Intelligence.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A relevant university qualification is desired, but not essential.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Knowledge of SharePoint would be an advantage.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong relationship management skills including engaging stakeholders in information sharing and collaboration.
- Able to work in a dynamic environment.
- A team player.
Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements
- New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or a permanent NZ resident
- Shift/Weekend work may be required to meet operational demand.
- Please note, this role is a Locally Advertised Position (LAV) and is only open to applicants within Tamaki Makaurau District
- Some travel may be required.
This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is "to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business".

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.
The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:
- A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
- A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu a-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $78,129.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
