For our Research Center in 79427 Eschbach (Lkr. Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald) we are looking for an:

Intern / Student Assistant (m/w/d) – Plant Breeding Maize
6-month Contract / Full-time

Your Responsibilities

  • Trial Management: Assist in the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of maize breeding nurseries and yield trials.
  • Phenotyping & Scoring: Perform field observations and collect data on agronomic traits (e.g., plant height, flowering dates, disease resistance, and standability).
  • Crossing Program: Actively participate in the controlled pollination process (hand-pollination/tasseling) during the summer season.
  • Sample Logistics: Support and assist in seed processing and preparation.
  • Data Management: Accurately document field data and observations using digital tools and breeding software. Contribute to data analysis and ensure high-level data quality and integrity.
  • Validation of Estimation Sets: Contribute to the validation of estimation sets to enhance the accuracy of predictive modeling and selection within the breeding pipeline

Your Profile

  • Education: Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agricultural Science or a related field
  • Passion for Plants: Strong interest in plant genetics, crop production, and the agricultural industry.
  • Hands-on Mindset: You enjoy working outdoors and are willing to perform physical work in the field under various weather conditions. You are willing to travel and work weekends during seasonal peaks.
  • Soft Skills: High level of reliability, attention to detail, and a collaborative team spirit.
  • Skills: Proficiency in MS Office. A valid driver’s license (Class B) is a requirement.
  • Language: Fluent in English, German skill is a benefit.
