About the job:

Our Tax, Customs and Trade team stands behind empowering global trade and business growth at SSAB and is now looking for a new International Trade Specialist to join us. In this role you will be a key player in ensuring we can keep continuous seamless business operations while staying compliant and minimizing risk. You will act as a key expert in the area, collaborating closely with all business divisions, SSAB mills, Logistics, Procurement, Sales, and Finance. It is a perfect opportunity to join a small team with global reach and create a meaningful contribution to the future of steel.

The Tax, Customs and Trade team is a part of SSAB’s Global Business Services. We would prefer this role to be based in Helsinki, Hämeenlinna or Raahe in Finland although the working field will be global. Please note that we are not providing relocation support for this role.

Responsibilities/essential functions :

  • Proactively partner with and advise cross-functional stakeholders, collaborate with external stakeholders and government authorities
  • Together with the team, lead global trade compliance projects and initiatives, internal and external customs audits and perform risk assessments of import and export transactions
  • Monitor and manage changes in customs legislation and tariffs, trade regulations, and free trade agreements
  • Together with the team, ensure that our import, export, and other customs processes are legally compliant and efficient, while constantly finding ways to improve the ways we work and systems supporting our job, contributing to improving processes and system enhancements
  • Determine customs classification, support with customs value and origin documentation, and provide related guidance to internal stakeholders
  • Manage customs authorizations, Incoterms applicability and provide related guidance
  • Support CBAM compliance and manage customs data
  • Continuously develop, maintain, and update trade compliance policies and procedure manuals; monitor Intrastat reporting; manage AEO certification and related documentation; provide training to our teams

Required qualifications

  • Degree in Law, Business, Logistics or similar
  • Extensive experience in EU customs, global trade compliance, logistics, or international trade
  • Strong knowledge of EU customs regulations and expertise in HS classification, origin rules, and customs processes
  • Fluent in English; Swedish, and other languages are an advantage
  • You have a strong desire to go into details and analytical mindset to interpret legal texts and apply them in practice, yet are solution oriented and able to come to a decision even if schedules are tight
  • You are not afraid of complexity and are constantly striving to find working solutions to support business
  • You have solid communication and stakeholder management skills and are used to working in a multicultural environment
  • AEO certification and audit experience and knowledge of excise duties are an advantage
