About the role:
The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC)
is the provision of care that is respectful of, and responsive to individual patient/family preferences, needs, and values
and ensures that those values guide all decisions. Creating a caring environment for patients and families ensures
continuity of care and fosters a learning environment. Applicants are required to have a demonstrated knowledge,
understanding and commitment to this care philosophy.

Reporting to the Manager of Practice & Learning, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Lead (IPLL) influences
and advances professional practice across the organization. Interprofessional Practice functions in close
collaboration with the nursing practice structure and provides strategic leadership in the development,
implementation, and evaluation of professional practice, resource planning, and patient care delivery. This work is
carried out in partnership with the Director of Nursing & Health Professions, Service Directors, and Managers. The
IPLL provides leadership and expert consultation to advance evidence‑based practice and improve patient outcomes,
while role‑modelling and embedding Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre’s patient‑ and family‑centred
care philosophy and values across all aspects of practice, education, and research. The role also includes
collaboration with regulatory colleges and professional bodies to support practice standards, accountability, and
continuous professional growth.

Working alongside Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nursing Practice Leaders, and other clinical leaders, the IPLL
contributes organization‑wide expertise in education, knowledge translation, change management, and quality
improvement across multiple disciplines, rather than within a single clinical specialty. In partnership with leaders and
clinicians, the IPLL supports practice review and follow‑up in a constructive, learning‑focused manner, with the goal
of strengthening professional practice and ensuring safe, high‑quality care.

Core competencies of the role include interprofessional education, clinical practice support, health system
optimization, leadership, research, and consultation. The IPLL applies the principles of PFCC and interprofessional
practice to enhance professional competency and improve patient outcomes across care teams.

an accredited master’s program within one year of hire.
