About the role
RWE Supply & Trading is the interface between RWE and energy markets around the world. Around 2,000 employees from over 70 different countries are engaged in the trade of (renewable) electricity, (green) gas, commodities and carbon emission certificates. We are active not only in Essen, which is home to one of the world’s largest trading floors, but also in major cities like London, Chicago and New York and in key growth markets – particularly in Asia, where we are represented in Singapore, Japan and China.
Reporting to the Head of IT, you will lead a cross-domain team of IT professionals based in the APAC region. In this role, you will oversee all personnel activities—from hiring to performance reviews—and build a high-performing, data-driven team. As the single point of contact for the business, you will collaborate closely with local stakeholders and global teams (especially in Europe) to ensure alignment with RWE global IT standards.
In this position, you will be responsible for tailoring IT strategies to meet APAC's specific market data and embedded IT requirements, ensuring that services are designed and delivered to meet the region's unique needs. This role combines strategic leadership with technical expertise, particularly in emerging data technologies, cloud-based data platforms, and modern coding practices. You will drive the adoption and integration of advanced technologies, aiming to enhance system efficiency, scalability, and security, while ensuring long-term IT maintainability.
Your tasks will include:
- Lead and develop a high-performing, matrix-managed IT team in APAC, ensuring alignment with European Domain teams and RWEST standards.
- Act as the main local IT contact, balancing regional needs with global processes and strategy.
- Manage priorities, resolve conflicts, and ensure robust, customer-focused service delivery.
- Align future financial planning and cost allocation activities for your team with the relevant Domain team leads in Europe as well as with local stakeholders
- Represent the team within the broader RWEST IT community and contribute to strategic IT initiatives.
- Ensure long-term IT maintainability and standards while implementing a global IT strategy tailored to local needs.
- Support the seamless integration of advanced data platforms by providing best practices, training, and robust user support to enhance efficiency.
- Ensure system performance, diagnose issues, and optimize data systems for speed and reliability, using logging, monitoring, and alerting tools.
- Foster a culture of cybersecurity awareness and data governance, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Drive the adoption and integration of emerging technologies to maintain a modern, scalable IT infrastructure that efficiently supports business needs and promotes continuous innovation.
Job requirements and experiences
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing remote teams within a matrix structure, fostering strong cross-functional relationships across IT teams, peers, and key stakeholders.
- Experience of working in a values and performance based organisation leading by example
- Demonstrate Customer focus while ensuring long-term IT maintainability and standards
- Experience of implementing a global IT strategy on a local level
- Effective communicator with strong influencing and negotiation skills, focused on achieving collaborative, win-win outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, and data lake management to support efficient data workflows and storage.
- Expertise in deploying and managing data solutions on cloud platforms (e.g. AWS), with a strong understanding of data architectures and cloud-based platforms such as Databricks and Dremio.
- Ability to monitor system performance, diagnose issues, and optimize data systems for speed and reliability, utilizing logging, monitoring, and alerting tools.
- Strong general coding skills with proficiency in languages such as Python and SQL, enabling the development and maintenance of efficient data pipelines and automation scripts. Experience in C# / .NET is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles and data governance, with experience in ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Skilled in integrating advanced (e.g. AWS based) data platforms, offering best practices, training, and professional support to empower users, optimize efficiency, and drive operational excellence.
- Proficient in identifying opportunities for automation and streamlining processes to eliminate inefficiencies and enhance productivity. Experienced in researching and implementing emerging technologies to modernize and future-proof IT infrastructure.
