Position Overview

The Occupational Nurse will provide nursing support as part of Kiewit's occupational health program. This role involves evaluating, treating (first aid treatment), and advising employees regarding health-related issues, injury management, and wellness programs through telemedicine platforms. The nurse will work closely with the jobsite management and safety teams to ensure compliance with health standards and regulations.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Constructors (KPC) provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a union craft force. Kiewit Power Constructors builds major EPC power plant and solar projects throughout North America.

Location

This position is located onsite at our power project in Cumberland City, TN.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Conduct assessments and consultations for patients experiencing occupational health issues, injuries, and illnesses. Treat the patients utilizing first aid treatment methods listed in CFR 1904.
  • Injury Assessment: Respond promptly to jobsite inquiries and triage appropriately for urgent situations. Cases believed to need care beyond first aid are to be discussed with the manager of medical services. Evaluate and document work-related injuries and illnesses, providing appropriate recommendations and follow-up care instructions.
  • Health Education: Educate employees on occupational health risks, preventative measures, and wellness strategies through virtual platforms.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside healthcare providers, jobsite management and safety teams, and employees to develop tailored care plans and coordinate medical services as needed.
  • Crisis Management: Respond to urgent care needs and emergencies, providing guidance and support to patients in crisis.
  • Case Management: In collaboration with other healthcare providers and employers the nurse will assess, plan, implement and monitor health service needs. Includes, but not limited to, arranging imaging, finding clinics and specialists for referral, coordinating care and return to work plans with providers.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records (EHR), documenting all patient interactions, assessments, and treatment plans. Providing the documentation to safety team.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all health practices adhere to regulatory standards, including licensing, confidentiality, and medical policies.
  • Administrative Tasks: In addition to clinical duties, there will be some administrative tasks that will be necessary. This could include but is not limited to document retention for the safety programs and/or managing stock counts of safety gear.
  • Technology Proficiency: Utilize SharePoint and Microsoft tools effectively for patient assessments, consultation documentation, and administrative tasks.
  • Workplace Safety: Promote workplace safety initiatives and provide insight on ergonomics and health programs to employers.
  • Drug and Alcohol Screenings: Assist in completing drug and alcohol screenings for pre-employment, random, and post incident screenings.
  • Workplace Evaluations and Screenings: Assist in completing respirator fit tests and/or vision test when needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in training and professional development to stay current with occupational health advancements and nursing standards.

Hours:
Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. With possible need of weekend coverage on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

  • Education: Registered Nursing degree (RN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare
Administration preferred.
  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Tennessee.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of nursing experience, preferably in occupational health,
telemedicine, or a related field.
  • Certifications: Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist
(COHN-S), or similar certification preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using Microsoft programs and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey
complex health information in an understandable manner.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong patient-centered approach and ability to build rapport with diverse
patients and teams.
