The Office of Community Outreach & Notification (OCON) is responsible for coordinating outreach to 59 community boards, local elected officials, civic groups, merchant organizations, community institutions and the public. OCON provides communities with project information and notification of the City’s Street infrastructure projects. OCON is a participant in pre-construction meetings, providing input developed through fieldwork and makes recommendations to identify and lessen adverse community impacts. Working closely with the Deputy Director and Director of OCON, the selected candidate will be attending and participating in various DDC meetings and project-specific community meetings; Monitor consultant CCL outreach tasks to ensure DDC standards and expected consultant project outreach deliverables. In addition to project-related stakeholder engagement, inquiry/complaint response/tracking, crisis management, conflict resolution and solution-oriented skills and experience, other duties may also include developing and presenting infrastructure projects to groups or at certain public assemblies, data analysis, overall, EON vendor engagement and program processes.
The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Communications & Policy Division seeks an Junior Outreach Coordinator to serve as a critical member of the Office of Community Outreach and Notification (OCON). Reporting to the Deputy Director of OCON, the Jr. Outreach coordinator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Agency and stakeholder network building and coordination: regularly connect with agency partners, non-profit partners, and community stakeholders (BIDs, CBs, etc.), to problem-solve, evaluate progress, develop, and implement solutions, hold collective accountability, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Perform field office and construction site visits in multiple boroughs to ensure performance standards.
- Prepare reports and carry out special assignments, tasks, and projects as assigned.
- Track critical projects and perform onboarding of consultants; address external tasks related to community liaisons and community outreach as needed.
- Provide ongoing training and technical assistance to consultants as needed.
- Represent OCON by attending various external and internal meetings, such as progress meetings, task force meetings, etc.
- Prepares written and verbal reports; maintains records and performs other administrative details i.e. review CCL advisories, reports, and presentations, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with the City’s infrastructure and public building systems is a plus. Experience working with diverse communities, cultures, and ethnicities computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Strong written and verbal presentation, and communication skills are preferred. A valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License is required, as well as the ability to travel throughout the five boroughs of NYC.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
