Purpose of the role
The Junior School Library Teacher fosters a love of reading, and information literacy in students from ELC to Year 6. The
role supports classroom teaching, promotes quality literature, and ensures the library is a vibrant, inclusive learning
environment that aligns with the College’s values and curriculum.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
- Create a learning space that inspires a love of learning for our junior students
- Support our teachers to empower students to be critical and creative thinkers
- Encourage parents to share in their children’s learning and, in turn, model life-long learning
- Inspire and develop the reading culture across the school
- Organise the library database and help students to find materials and resources
Selection Criteria
Experience
- Experience in libraries, literature programs, or information services (preferred but not essential)
- Involvement in, or contributions to, the school community beyond the classroom
- Evidence of regular involvement in professional learning
Skills and attributes
- Demonstrated love of learning, reading, and general love of reading
- Passionate about children’s literature and fostering a love of reading
- Strong knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning practices
- Ability to design learning experiences that differentiate for varying abilities
- Skilled in library systems and information organisation (or willingness to learn)
- Highly organised, warm, and child-centred in approach
- Collaborative and proactive team member
- Proficiency in digital learning tools and library management systems
- Knowledge of child safe practices, including reporting requirements
Qualifications and Employer Requirements
- Clearance to work with children - registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
- Entitled to live and work in Australia
- Current First Aid Certificate
- A commitment and capacity to contribute to the College’s co-curricular program
- Completion of Protecting Children – Mandatory Reporting and Other Obligations (training provided by DoE
Victoria)
