Education: Valid Daily Sub Permit or Michigan Teacher Certification

Experience: Previous teaching experience preferred

Skills: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to evaluate students, plan, and implement individual developmental plans; and perform duties that are associated with being a case manger.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Builds trust and confidence in students

2. Administers standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine students' strengths and areas of need

3. Observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, physical health, and reviews information from all relevant sources

4. Confers with parents, administrators, psychologist, speech therapists, social workers, and/or other professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development

5. Prepares goals and objectives, following curriculum guidelines and/or requirements of the state and school

6. Provides assistive learning devices and supportive technology to assist student needs

7. Provides grade reports to parents/guardians

8. Meets with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress

9. Maintains accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on students on caseload as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations including completion of Medicaid reports in a timely manner

10. Employs special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory

11. Teaches personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy

12. Prepares students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks

13. Monitors teachers and teacher assistants to ensure that they adhere to inclusive special education program requirements

14. Helps in modifying curriculum with classroom teachers based on individual student needs

15. Prepares, administers, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress

16. Meets with parents and guardians to provide guidance in using community resources, and to teach skills for dealing with students' impairments

17. Uses computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to aide in learning

18. Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence

19. Participates in special education meetings

20. Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information

21. Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies

22. Maintain a safe and nurturing environment

23. Other duties as assigned

Teachers should have the ability to perform each of the following:

1. Speaking: The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

2. English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

3. Written Expression: The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.

4. Written Comprehension: The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

5. Reading Comprehension -- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

6. Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications as related to field of discipline.

7. Making Decisions and Solving Problems: Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

8. Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

9. Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships: Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others

1. While performing the duties of this job, the teacher may frequently be required to stand, speak, listen, walk and sit.

2. Additionally, the teacher may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts.

3. The teacher is responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of other people.

4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include performing tasks that require close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, and the ability to refocus the eyes.

5. The position requires the teacher to meet multiple demands from several people, and interact with the public and other staff.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $130.00 per day

Work Location: In person
