Mō mātau (About us)

As a proudly indigenous tertiary educator, ‘tauira success’ is our mission and ‘whānau transformation through education’ is our vision, guiding our commitment to delivering quality education programmes underpinned by Māori culture and values.

Our kaimahi (employees) enjoy a whānau-friendly workplace and a great range of benefits to support their wellbeing and that of their whānau:

  • Free health and life insurance for permanent employees.
  • Four extra leave days each year to celebrate Matariki and Christmas, plus special leave available for those involved in cultural or sporting events.
  • Flexible work hours and work-from-home options for some roles.
  • Free car parking at our main campuses.

Mō tēnei mahi (About this job)

We are seeking a Kaiako for the Diploma in Rongoā (Level 5) programme, aimed at providing tauira with hands-on experience and a deep understanding of Rongoā Māori. This is permanent, full-time employment based in Ōpotiki.

The programme is delivered in a distinctive Māori learning environment, rooted in the principles of whanaungatanga (family relationships), rangatiratanga (leadership), tūhonohono (engagement), and mauitanga (innovation).

Mōu (About you)

To be considered for this role you will be passionate about preserving traditional rongoā Māori history and practices, and be passionate about sharing your knowledge with tauira who want to deepen their understanding and knowledge of rongoā.

Ideally, you will hold:

  • A Bachelor in Matauranga Māori Level 7, related to Rongoa or Hauora Māori
  • Adult Teaching qualification (NZCATT) Level 5 or equivalent or willing to complete during the first year of employment.
  • Either attest equivalence from NZQA standards required to moderate this programme or hold a New Zealand Certificate in Assessment Practice Level 4
  • Full and current New Zealand Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience using traditional Māori healing methods, or other relevant work-related to Rongoā Māori would be an advantage

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.

Please Note: Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is closed from 19 December 2024 and re-opens on 15 January 2025. We will respond to queries and applications when we return in January 2025.
