Location: Waikato-Waiariki, Rotorua.
Te Puni Kokiri is the government's principal policy advisor on M ori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with M ori. This includes our mandate to promote M ori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.
We have an exciting opportunity for two Kaitohutohu | Advisors to bring their life experience, knowledge and passion for "thriving whanau" to our collaborative, welcoming Rotorua office.
Te whai w hitanga | The opportunity
Agile and supportive, kaimahi take their mahi across the wider region as part of a "One Waikato-Waiariki" approach. This well-established proactive team shares ideas, is led and supported by dedicated team of kaiwhakahaere and kaimahi who encourage and upskill one another.
The Advisor is responsible for assisting wh nau, hapu, iwi, M ori organisations and M ori communities to develop and implement initiatives that will enable them to achieve long-term economic and social development. They do this by:
- Facilitating regional partnerships and working with stakeholders across iwi, public and private sectors.
- Assisting in the development and management of proposals for funding, including investments.
- Contributing to regional work programmes including leading and providing policy advice across a range of project related issues significant to M ori and Government.
- Acting as an effective conduit for information both into and out of M ori communities to support M ori initiatives.
The appointment range for this role is between $76,022 to $92,015 per annum (With a midpoint of $84,468) and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience.
Mou | About you
We are looking for kaimahi who take an engagement and relationship approach to their mahi over a purely transactional one. To be successful you will have:
- Experience working with community, preferably with M ori and working collaboratively with others to get work done
- Research skills, including evaluation of opportunities and risks. Demonstrated capability in providing high quality advice and recommendations based on your research.
- A high level of written communication and be skilled working with numbers, including spreadsheets, and databases. Technologically savvy, especially with the Microsoft suite.
- Some understanding of and can speak some reo M ori and be comfortable working in a te ao M ori environment.
- Clean full drivers licence.
