About the Role
As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you’ll play a key role in collecting, receiving, and processing patient samples in accordance with our strict protocols. Your day will include morning ward phlebotomy rounds, POCT testing, specimen preparation, and liaising with clinical teams to ensure timely and accurate diagnostics. This position offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of preanalytical and analytical tasks while making a real difference in a close-knit community.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our Wairoa Laboratory is part of Te Whatu Ora – Te Matau a Māui Hawke’s Bay and supports local clinicians and hospital services by delivering quality laboratory diagnostics. You’ll be part of a small, friendly team where your contributions are highly valued.

About you
As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will bring:
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (or be working toward it)
- Proven experience in a medical laboratory setting
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- A detail-oriented mindset and the ability to follow procedures precisely
- Computer literacy and accurate data entry skills
