Lactalis is one of Canada’s leading producers of premium quality food products including milk, cheese, and yogurt.
We are currently recruiting for a temporary laboratory technician to work up to 40 hours per week on days, evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed, as well as provide full-time relief for vacations and other absences.
General Accountability:
The laboratory technician will focus on performing laboratory tests for quality control and reporting results to the quality manager.
Critical Success Factors:
- Record all results and measurements accurately, as required in different formats electronic and paper.
- Able to operate all Laboratory related equipment.
- Follow all Lactalis Quality Assurance Standard Operating Procedures.
- Troubleshoot and make minor adjustments to equipment.
- Supplying all pertinent documents and reports, as may be required by management or the government, in an accurate and legible format.
- Report to Manager/Supervisor immediately of any food safety/quality/health and safety issues.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, Food Safety, Quality Regulations, SOPs and other pertinent policies, procedures and legislation.
- Maintain a safe work area and support health & safety programs (wear proper Personal Protection Equipment, comply with company health and safety policies).
- Maintain good housekeeping and clean work areas.
- Take on additional duties as required.
- Shift work and weekends as assigned.
Key Attributes of the Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree or a diploma from a post secondary institution (minimum 2 years), preferably in food science or laboratory technology (microbiology or chemistry).
- Knowledge of food chemistry and microbiology and how it pertains to laboratory practices.
- Have the ability and background to understand and operate laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with HACCP principles is an asset.
- Good mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify, problem solve and research alternatives within the scope of the job.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team-based environment.
- Good reading, communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Good Microsoft Office skills focusing on excel and word applications.
- Additional experience, training or education asset.
Job Type: Temporary
Contract length: 18 months
Pay: From $29.72 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
