Essential Job Functions
Operates industrial laundry equipment in the sorting, routing, washing, drying, and distribution of soiled bedding and clothing in order to fulfill the clean laundry needs of multiple County facilities.
Assigns, trains, directs, monitors, and provides feedback to inmates in their daily duties of unloading, sorting, tagging, bagging, transporting, and loading of laundry from receipt through to final distribution in order to maximize productivity and safety.
Loads, unloads, and transports clean and soiled laundry upon receipt at loading docks, through the multiple work stations within the laundry facility, and into vehicles transporting clean laundry to end users located throughout the County.
Sorts and routes laundry for flatwork ironers or transport to the appropriate washing/drying machine stations within the laundry facility.
Documents daily work progress and accomplishment/issues of concern on production reports.
Assists in keeping laundry and linen records regarding items received, distributed, and available for distribution.
Cleans linen carts according to laundry procedures in order to avoid mixing of clean/dirty laundry and preparing the carts for subsequent use.
Stores empty linen carts in designated areas within, and adjacent to, the laundry facility in order to have carts available where and when needed.
Visually inspects and manually sorts badly worn clothing and linens into rags.

Requirements
No training or experience is required.
PHYSICAL CLASS III – MODERATE: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

This examination will consist of a computerized multiple-choice test worth 100% assessing:

THE COMPUTERIZED MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY APPLICANTS PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.
This examination contains test components that may be used in the future for new examinations and your test responses may be transferred.
TEST PREPARATION

VETERAN'S CREDIT
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to the exam analyst at sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org as soon as possible so, if you are eligible for veteran's credit, we can include it before the list is available.

NO PERSON MAY COMPLETE IN THIS EXAMINIATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY SIX (6) MONTHS.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.

- in a jail facility where you will be working with and monitoring the work of inmates.
