Role Overview
The Lead Installation Technician is responsible for overseeing AV installation projects from pre-site review through post-installation support. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and a client-focused mindset. You'll play a key role in ensuring successful integration of systems and exceptional customer experiences.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstallation & System Prep
- Conduct pre-installation site assessments to inform training and design documentation.
- Review system designs and Statements of Work (SOWs) for project readiness.
- Assist with cable scheduling and layout planning.
- Perform safe rigging of AV equipment: speakers, displays, projectors, LED and projection screens.
- Execute cable termination (BNC, XLR, RJ45, coaxial, network, and speaker cables)
Q-SYS System Design
- Review and develop Q-SYS or Extron system designs.
- Ensure Q-SYS or Extron component integration aligns with system architecture and customer needs.
Design Review & Documentation
- Conduct in-depth reviews of AV system designs to confirm accuracy and viability.
- Create clear schematics and cable schedules.
- Maintain and submit all required documentation and final system diagrams post-installation.
Customer Training & Support
- Provide comprehensive customer training post-installation.
- Develop training checklists and troubleshooting guides tailored to end users and volunteers.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries (calls same-day when possible; emails within 24 hours).
- Support service technicians on complex service calls as needed.
Service Calls & Support
- Respond promptly to service call requests, prioritizing critical environments such as churches and corporate boardrooms.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve AV system issues both on-site and remotely.
- Document all service activities, resolutions, and follow-ups.
- Communicate clearly with clients about system performance and next steps.
- Collaborate with Project Manager and support staff to escalate and resolve issues effectively.
- Maintain service vehicle readiness with tools, diagnostic gear, and spare components.
- Perform preventative maintenance and offer recommendations during service visits.
Post-Installation Duties
- Finalize and deliver accurate schematics and cable schedules for customer reference.
- Ensure documentation is complete and up to date.
Personal and Professional Growth
- Set monthly and annual goals for technical and professional development.
- Stay current with emerging AV technologies and best practices.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager or Owner.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Project Manager.
Qualifications
- Proven hands-on AV installation experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Q-SYS, Extron and IP-based AV systems.
- Expertise in cable termination, rigging safety, and system troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent communication and client service skills.
- Attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.
