The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health. Our goal is to be the best place to work, learn and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.

About the team

We lead the optimising of the competency and capability of The Women’s nurses and midwives that enables them to work safely and at the top of their scope of practice. We adapt to contemporary ways of interprofessional learning, accessing tools and resources that meet the needs of the health workforce and the health system. We identify competency and capability levels and gaps across the workforce cohorts, and:

  • Develop tools, resources and timely access to clinical education and development
  • Partner, using codesign, with CNS/CMS, unit managers/team leaders, AUMs, Quality and Safety, People, Culture and Wellbeing (PCW) and the broader RN/RM workforce to embed ongoing professional development
  • Collaborate and partner with universities to maximise student capability and build research projects that better inform the advancement of clinical nursing and midwifery in Victoria.

We support state-wide capacity and capability by sharing our tools, resources and expertise; initiating collaborations; and learning from nurses and midwives across Victoria’s regional, rural and metro services and offering our tools, resources and programs. Through these efforts we contribute to the attraction, retention and capability of the Victorian healthcare workforce and enable better care for women babies and families.

About the role

The Lead Educator – Graduate Services is a senior clinical and professional leadership role that collaborates with all other Lead Educators and key stakeholders to develop, deliver and evaluate a strategy of learning for the Women’s graduate programs and across key streams of work. These key streams of work include pre-registration student programs, graduate programs, postgraduate programs, professional development and workforce capability development programs (including simulation and preceptorship) and any other emerging workforce support requirements.

A regular day will see you:

  • Developing, delivering and evaluating education and learning initiatives for graduates
  • Leading a team of education personnel
  • Collaborating with other education leads to deliver on key programs of work (such as preceptorship frameworks, pre-registration programs, capability building, professional development and simulation)

About you

We are looking for a creative, innovative, evidence-based change education leader who brings a ‘can do’ approach to building capability in graduates and all nurses and midwives. Ideally you will hold qualifications or have a strong interest in education and learning, simulation, leadership or other relevant specialist practice.

You’ll be:

  • A Registered Nurse and Midwife with recent and extensive midwifery experience (preferably in a tertiary centre) across the midwifery continuum (Antenatal, Birth Centre, Postnatal)
  • Someone with a record of developing, delivering and evaluating learners and evidence-based learning initiatives
  • An excellent communicator!

Our benefits

At the Women’s you will enjoy a culture that is collaborative, supportive and passionate about learning. We have a strong sense of purpose, and engage in meaningful work every day. We offer our people a range of rewarding benefits, including:

  • Up to $11,660 in salary packaging benefits, for living expenses, meals and holiday accommodation
  • A suite of wellness initiatives designed to support you, including discounted financial, lifestyle and health options, and a comprehensive wellbeing program
  • Public transport options at our doorstep and end of trip facilities for cyclists
  • Onsite post office, eateries, retail stores and library services
  • Breastfeeding and pumping rooms, and a range of daycare centres nearby
  • Mentoring, learning and career development opportunities
  • Five weeks annual leave and 17.5% leave loading

We encourage applications from anyone identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. We also welcome anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+, linguistically, culturally and/or gender diverse, people with disability, and people of any age to apply for our roles. We are committed to gender equity principles, and our people have an awareness of and sensitive approach to violence against women and family violence matters. We are proudly Breastfeeding Association accredited and, as a child safe organisation, have a strong commitment to child safety and wellbeing.

Join us!

If you feel this role is right for you we warmly invite you to apply, and encourage your early application. All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) and a valid Working with Children Check. Clinical staff are required to be vaccinated against, or demonstrate immunity to, COVID-19, influenza, and a range of other diseases.

Should you need assistance or require any adjustments or accommodations to fully participate in the application or interview process, or if you require an accessible copy of the position description, you are most welcome to reach out to the contact person listed.
