Evidence-Based Policing (EBP) is about using information, crime-science and problem-solving methods to ensure that proven approaches and tactics inform our choices, are seen in the results, and provide confidence that what we do works.
EBP presents an opportunity for New Zealand Police to embed an evidence base into all our operations. The Service Centre comprises three specialised teams that together contribute to a multi-disciplinary and integrated approach to deliver high quality and innovative work. This is an opportunity to contribute at the strategic level to enhance our delivery of `what works' to benefit the frontline.
The Lead Evaluation position provides robust thought leadership and expertise in evaluation for the EBP Service Centre and Police. Working collaboratively across EBP and the wider organisation, you will provide strategic input and advice regarding the planning and delivery of evaluation as well as support for the translation and use of evaluation derived insights to support and drive operational change. You will provide mentoring and coaching to team members and work collaboratively to lead the planning and oversight of key programmes of work. You will support the manager evaluation to work across the organisation to grow evaluative thinking and approaches.
You will be a go-getter with proven project management and evaluation expertise and an excellent track-record building and managing internal and external relationships. You will be comfortable guiding long-duration robust evaluation and research initiatives as well as adept at pivoting and providing rapid evidence informed insights to support during times of urgency.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide specialist knowledge in evaluation. Experience in the design and implementation of quantitative impact evaluations is an advantage
- Seek ways to `do things better' and `do better things';
- Grow others by transferring technical knowledge;
- Scan, anticipate and respond to challenges, changes in trends or significant shifts in context, sense opportunities, take the initiative, make things happen; and
- Play a key role in delivering the functions and deliverables of their team and work programme.

- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work seamlessly with other teams and managers.

- This role is based in the Wellington area. Some travel may be required.
- Applicants must have a postgraduate tertiary qualification in a relevant research or evaluation field, or equivalent industry experience.
This role is set at Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is "to lead tactics for Our Business and enable people to deliver them".

Utu a-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $140,034 and $144,691 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
