Job Summary: The Lead Hand / Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating production equipment while supporting the day-to-day coordination of manufacturing activities on the production floor. This role ensures production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met while providing guidance and support to machine operators and production staff during the shift.

Organizational Status: The Lead Hand/Machine Operator is responsible to the Shift Supervisor and ultimately to the VP of Production.

Duties and Responsibilities: (But not limited to)

  • Perform start up, operation and monitoring activities of production equipment according to production specifications.
  • Assist the Supervisor/VP of Production in coordinating daily production activities and meeting output targets with quality objectives achieved.
  • Troubleshoot minor machine issues and report and/or coordinate maintenance when required
  • Ensure products meet regulatory and company quality standards and report any defects or process issues to Supervisors or upper management.
  • Provide direction and support to production team members to maintain efficient workflows, including assignment of duties where directed.
  • Promotion and maintenance of a clean and safe work environment, conducting safety checks, reporting of safety issues including near misses, identification of hazards for corrective/preventative (CAPA) actions.
  • Accurate recording of downtime information on production reports, validating downtime reason and duration.
  • Ability to meet or exceed KPI targets as directed in a safe and effective manner.
  • Efficiently operate all the production equipment including material handling equipment, Forklift, Bob Cat, Pallet Jack etc.
  • Accurately & correctly record online the daily production including down time and lab testing results accordingly.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, lead hands, managers, to ensure the correct products are run according to customer & company requirements.
  • Perform other essential duties are assigned by management.
  • Strict adherence to regulatory and company Health & Safety procedures, ensuring compliance with all safety policies, PPE requirements, and the company’s life critical rules.

Academic/Educational Requirements:

  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Manufacturing experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process; success in planning, executing and managing projects.
  • Strong Communication skills. Self-directed and able to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)
  • Certified forklift operator a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate upwardly to upper management and downward to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong communication skills. Self-directed and able to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs safely
  • Ability to maintain housekeeping, workspace and equipment standards
  • Must have own transportation to and from work

Full time, shift (12hours) 6AM-6PM M-F

The setting is in a cellulose fibre manufacturing facility; exposure to dust cold/heat. The requirement is to wear PPE (glasses, mask, workpants, safety vest, safety boots);

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 60 per week
