Position Summary

The Lead Journey Helper provides leadership, mentorship, and support to Journey Helpers while fostering a safe, culturally responsive, and healing-focused environment for relatives. Working alongside the Manitou House Journey Pathfinder, the Lead Journey Helper supports the day-to-day operations of Manitou House, promotes relative-centred helping practices, and strengthens opportunities for healing, growth, and meaningful connection to community. This role balances direct support with leadership and administrative responsibilities while promoting adherence to organizational values, applicable directives, and Indigenous healing approaches.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Support

• Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to Journey Helpers.
• Support onboarding, training, and professional growth.
• Foster a culturally safe, trauma-informed, and relative-centred environment.
• Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and team communication.
• Promote adherence to NCO values, policies, and directives.
• Assist with staff wellness, conflict resolution, and development.
• Act as supervisor in the absence of the Manitou House Journey Pathfinder.

Program and Operational Support

• Support safe, organized, and relative-centred daily operations.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation, communication, and reporting.
• Coordinate house routines, programming, appointments, and daily activities.
• Support healing, cultural, educational, and community connection opportunities for relatives.
• Promote operational standards, safety practices, and continuous improvement.
• Identify concerns and communicate recommendations to the Manitou House Journey Pathfinder.

Relative Support and Operations

• Support Journey Helpers in providing relative-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally safe support.
• Collaborate with Pathfinders, Case Managers, Elders, CSC personnel, and community partners.
• Assist with healing journey planning, progress reviews, documentation, and required reporting.
• Provide daily support, guidance, and coaching to relatives within a safe, healing-focused environment.
• Monitor relative well-being, participation, and adherence to house expectations while promoting accountability and safety.
• Communicate significant observations, concerns, incidents, breaches, and emerging risks to appropriate supports and personnel.
• Support a safe, clean, respectful, and culturally welcoming living environment.
• Promote dignity, Indigenous healing approaches, and holistic support for relatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; a combination of lived experience, maturity, education, training, and community involvement will be considered.
• Education or training in counselling, Indigenous studies, community development, social services, human services, addictions, mental health, or related fields is considered an asset but is not required.
• Experience working with Correctional Service Canada (CSC), justice systems, community corrections, or related organizations is considered an asset.
• Experience supporting relatives in residential, healing-focused, community-based, or culturally responsive environments is considered an asset.
• Ability to build supportive relationships and provide guidance, coaching, advocacy, and individual support to relatives.
• Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to complete documentation and utilize Microsoft Office, electronic record systems, and other required software.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed, harm-reductive, strength-based, and Indigenous healing approaches is considered an asset.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Journey Helpers, Pathfinders, Elders, community partners, and external agencies.

Work Environment and Expectations

• Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations and support relatives experiencing complex challenges.
• Ability to perform physical duties associated with residential operations, safety, and emergency response.
• Commitment to cultural safety, reconciliation, and Indigenous healing approaches in all helping practices.

Pay: $55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
