About the team/About the role:
The Cancer Information and Support Services Division (CISS) aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no-one needs to face cancer alone. This Division assists people as they navigate the cancer journey, easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.
The Practical Support Services team provides support to people affected by cancer, ensuring practical needs are met throughout their cancer trajectory. The services offered include pro bono legal, workplace and financial planning advice, transport and accommodation to treatment and financial counselling and capability support.
The key purpose of the Lead, Practical Support Services is to Lead the delivery of practical support (T2T, Accommodation Hardship, Home Help) and in collaboration with the Lead, Legal & Financial Support Services, ensure effective and efficient delivery of services that meet the practical, legal and financial needs of people affected by cancer

Key responsibilities of the role:
- Oversee the delivery of practical support services, including Accommodation Hardship, Home Help, and Transport to Treatment to ensure timely, holistic, high quality client experiences, delivering the greatest impact to those in greatest need.
- Lead and cultivate a high performing team, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment that promotes employee and volunteer growth, engagement, and satisfaction.
- Lead on service reporting, including regularly monitoring service data and trends to make evidence-based service decisions and changes, and oversee service expenditure budget and grant funding.
- Lead strategic initiatives to enable continuous improvement of the services in line with operational demand, ensure long-term sustainability and scalability of services, and contribute to the organisation’s strategic priorities.
- Work collaboratively with CISS Leads to ensure seamless integration of service delivery for clients and operational efficiency.
About you:
Essential:
- Demonstrated track record of successfully managing and developing high-performing and engaged client-facing employees who work both in-office and remotely.
- Experience in implementing, monitoring and improving support services for disadvantaged clients.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and work in a collaborative, cross functional way with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for clients.
- Strong level of experience in leading, championing, and adapting to change.
- Experience working with clients who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or have high levels of distress, and ability to maintain strong professional boundaries.
- Experience in process optimisation and a passion for delivering high quality client experiences and client satisfaction.
Desirable:
- An understanding of the needs of people affected by cancer and the oncology health setting and experience working with people affected by cancer or providing support services to vulnerable clients.
