Lead Structured Cabling Technician

Position Overview:
Cabling Ottawa is looking for people with experience being a Lead Structured Cabling Technician. As a Lead technician at Cabling Ottawa you will play a pivotal role in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems for our clients. You will lead a team of technicians, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. (Please Note: This position does not involve any computer programming of any sort)

· Running/Managing Projects (or assist with)

· Working with/training new employees

· Filling out work orders

· Ordering material for large projects

· Dealing with customers

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Supervise a team of technicians in the installation, termination, testing, and labeling of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Plan and organize project schedules, allocate resources, and ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine project requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to structured cabling systems, ensuring minimal downtime for clients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all installations, configurations, and changes to cabling infrastructure.
  • Flexible to work various shifts including days, evenings, and weekends, if needed
  • Available to work 40 hours per week, with the potential for overtime hours, if needed.
  • Ability to lift 70lbs and carry, climb and work from a ladder.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and to handle calmly and efficiently situations ranging from routine to emergency.
  • Ability to work both independently.

Skills/Experience required include but are not limited to:

  • · Installing Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A & all types of Fiber
  • · Dressing, Terminating, Jacking Cables
  • · Testing cables with Fluke Tester
  • · Working with Floor Plans
  • · Installing WiFi AP units (no programming necessary)
  • · Installing Access Control Systems
  • · Installing IP Camera's
  • · Configure Access Control & Camera's
  • Requirements:
  • · 5 years’ experience minimum
  • · Must be able to obtain Reliability & Secret Clearance
  • · Valid Ontario "G" Drivers License with a clear/clean drivers abstract.
  • Hard Working
  • Work well with others

The following certifications are an asset: WHIMIS, Working at Heights/Fall Arrest, Confined Space, ASP, 4 & 5 Step Awareness, Panduit, Belden

The selected candidate must be able to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Be able to successfully complete a Criminal background check.
  • Selected candidates will have (or must be willing to obtain) GOVERNMENT OF CANADA SECURITY CLEARANCE – Secret clearance.

Cabling Ottawa-Telecom & Security has been providing the Ottawa and Kingston Area with Telecom & Security services for 21 years and is ongoing. Specializing in the Private and Government Sectors, Cabling Ottawa offers a wide variety of projects for employees to work on and gain experience from.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $28.00-$36.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
