What’s the focus of this position?
Whilst in any school, student welfare is the responsibility of every teacher and staff member, our College aims higher. The aim of St Philip’s Christian College is to provide a “whole of life” education that not only develops students academically, but also socially, physically, personally and spiritually. Subsequently, at St Philip’s, student welfare and wellbeing are placed as a very high priority. The Leader of Wellbeing leads a team who provide solution focused services, in a range of cultural and diverse contexts to support students from Kindergarten to Year Twelve. They work in partnership with members of the College Executive, Inclusive Education, Pastoral Care Teachers, Chaplains, and other relevant roles within the College. Their purpose is to enhance student social, emotional, spiritual and mental wellbeing and students personal learning outcomes.
The Leader of Wellbeing may come to the position with the following:
Successful experience in Christian Education with capacity to initiate improvement in
teaching, learning and classroom practice with students with wellbeing support needs.
2. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals
and teams.
3. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships
and engage students, staff and parents to wellbeing initiatives and external services.
4. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
5. Awareness of current wellbeing issues, and commitment to growth in own professional development.
What you’ll be doing:
At SPCC Gosford, the Leader of Wellbeing plays a pivotal role in fostering the holistic development of students by supporting their social, emotional, spiritual, and mental wellbeing. Overseeing the daily operations of the Wellbeing team, the Leader of Wellbeing manages staff, partners with teachers, and engages with students and families to promote a safe, supportive, and flourishing school environment. The role also carries responsibility for student welfare, including mandatory reporting obligations and ensuring that policies and procedures are followed to maintain strong child safety standards across the school. This position will have input into a whole–school approach to wellbeing while also targeting Christ-centred and strengths-based support measures for our students. The successful applicant may have the following list of duties associated to the role based on their skills and qualifications.
Leadership & Team Management
Oversee the daily operations of the Wellbeing team, including triaging student needs for the Wellbeing Advisors.
Provide pastoral and emotional support and debriefing for team members.
Collaborate with teachers and leaders to develop proactive strategies that promote student wellbeing.
Act as a key point of contact for staff, students, and families regarding wellbeing or child safety concerns.
Work closely with the Director of Student Support, the Leader of Inclusive Education, and other school leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to student care.
Organise and facilitate weekly team collaboration and Risk Assessment review meetings.
Work in conjunction with other SPCC School Wellbeing Leaders.
Maintain and oversee departmental budget each year in discussion with Director of Student Support.
Present at Staff Professional Learning, Parent Evenings, Information Evenings, and School Assemblies as required.
Drive evidence gathering to support NCCD funding.
Wellbeing Program Oversight & Initiatives
Oversee the development and delivery of wellbeing programs, initiatives, and curriculum across the school. Implement supports that are grounded in evidence based positive psychology and positive education frameworks.
Plan and facilitate proactive wellbeing initiatives, including transition programs for students moving between key year levels (Peer Support).
Lead the planning and implementation of special whole school events or staff professional development (e.g., R U OK?, The Lift Project, New Staff Induction)
Support the planning of school events and excursions by ensuring appropriate wellbeing measures and risk assessments are in place.
Contribute to the enrolment and orientation process by providing wellbeing observations and support for new students and families.
Student & Family Support
Manage a caseload of students, providing direct support for their social, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
Provide low to moderate individual and group-based interventions and refer externally for deeper therapeutic intervention.
Support students during camps, excursions, and co-curricular activities.
Work with families and external professionals to develop and monitor Individual Plans.
- Liaise with families and services on behalf of the school in conjunction with direction of the College Principal or delegate that promote wellbeing resulting in improved learning and social outcomes.
Fulfil mandatory reporting obligations in accordance with legislative requirements and school policy in collaboration with the Principal.
Ensure processes are in place for identifying, documenting, and responding to child protection and wellbeing concerns.
Provide leadership in crisis management, including responding to incidents of self-harm, suicidal ideation, risk of harm, and other critical wellbeing concerns.
Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures that prioritise student safety and wellbeing, ensuring they meet Wellbeing legislative requirements pertaining to schools.
You will be required to carry out other responsibilities as requested and determined by the Principal or the Director of Student Support, these duties are within the limits of your skills, competence, training and/or experience as directed by the College Principal or their delegate.
Skills and Experiences:

An ability to effectively integrate the College’s Vision, Mission and Christian ethos into professional practice.
To demonstrate a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
Recognised qualifications to support the implementation of Wellbeing initiatives.
Demonstrated experience in working with children and/or adolescents and their families to address various mental health, developmental and learning concerns.
Ability to prepare and implement psychoeducational individual and small group evidence-based interventions and proactive strategies to support students and their families.
The capacity and ability to provide, as necessary, immediate referral advice and support to students and their families in collaboration with external government or community-based providers.
Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth as well as willingness to participate in extra curricula activities.
Demonstrated experience working independently, as well as within a team environment.
Proficient computer use, administration and case noting.

We will partner with you to support your performance and ongoing development to ensure you are fully prepared for future challenges as this position and our organisation adapts and grows. This maternity relief position is full time commencing at the beginning of Term One, 2026. The current hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:15am – 4:15pm.
