VoiceUp Publishing Virtual Internship Program Student Leadership Biography Project
Program Overview The VoiceUp Publishing Virtual Internship Program connects ambitious student interns with emerging student leaders across college campuses to document their stories, experiences, and aspirations through compelling autobiographies. This program aims to amplify diverse student voices while providing interns with valuable experience in interviewing, writing, and project management.
Internship Details - **Duration**: 12 weeks - **Time Commitment**: 10-15 hours per week - **Format**: 100% remote - **Compensation**: Academic credit or volunteer experience - **Supervision**: Weekly virtual check-ins with founder
Intern Responsibilities 1. **Student Leader Identification & Outreach** - Research and identify potential student leaders across various universities - Develop outreach strategies and initial contact protocols - Build and maintain a database of potential candidates - Conduct initial screening of candidates
2. **Interview & Documentation** - Conduct virtual interviews with selected student leaders - Develop standardized interview questions and protocols - Record and transcribe interviews - Follow up with subjects for additional details or clarification
3. **Content Creation** - Transform interview content into compelling narrative formats - Draft and edit autobiographical pieces - Incorporate feedback from both subjects and supervisors - Ensure consistent voice and style across all pieces
4. **Project Management** - Maintain project timelines and deadlines - Coordinate with student leaders for reviews and approvals - Document best practices and processes - Contribute to program improvement recommendations
Learning Objectives Interns will develop skills in: - Professional communication and interviewing - Narrative writing and editing - Project management - Network building - Digital collaboration - Cultural competency and sensitivity
Required Qualifications - Current undergraduate or graduate student - Strong writing and communication skills - Self-motivated with ability to work independently - Interest in leadership development and storytelling - Access to reliable internet and computer
Deliverables 1. **Weekly Progress Reports** - Summary of activities - Challenges encountered and solutions implemented - Goals for upcoming week
2. **Student Leader Profiles** - Minimum of 6 completed autobiographies - Associated media materials (photos, quotes) - Interview transcripts and notes
3. **Final Portfolio** - Collection of all completed work - Process documentation - Recommendations for program improvement
Program Structure Week 1-2: Orientation & Training - Program overview and expectations - Interview techniques and best practices - Writing guidelines and style standards - Technology and tools training Week 3-4: Research & Outreach - Develop candidate identification strategy - Begin outreach to student organizations - Create initial contact list - Start preliminary interviews Week 5-8: Core Interview & Writing Phase - Conduct in-depth interviews - Draft autobiographies - Review and revision process - Regular check-ins with subjects Week 9-11: Refinement & Completion - Final edits and approvals - Collection of supporting materials - Portfolio assembly - Process documentation Week 12: Wrap-up & Presentation - Final presentation of work - Program evaluation - Future recommendations - Handoff documentation Application Process Send to info@ellingtonbooks.com 1. Job Type: Internship
Pay: $18.65 - $20.15 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
